Yeah for a start they could probably do with optimising the mySQL server variables. Would need to lower "long_query_time" to see exactly whats locking the server. Also maybe changing the table types and making the search results show as posts only instead of threads should help a bit of the load.

Well for a start it should bring it to the attention of the people running the site that a lot of us seem to be having major problems getting the site to load.

I have just had about more than ten minutes of slowness trying to get back to this thread, and find that it is even slower by far than it was when I posted the original thread this morning.

Having just taken a quick look, I see there over 2600 people on this site at the moment, is it any wonder it is running slower than we would like. I've also had a quick look at other boards I use, and they are fine, having said that, there are less than 2 dozen browsing there. Seems the answer lies in popularity.

The original posts I completely agree with...owners/webmasters should be informed if there are problems.

Martin and the Webmaster have now both replied though, so there is no point in people posting ere just to boost your Post count up! lol.

Yeah. The two basic paths are:

    - Improve the hardware. Run the db on a seperate server to the web server (if not already). Run a cluster of dbs, although that can be tricky.

    - Make the coding more efficient. Optimize sql statements. Reduce the number of queries needed upon requesting a page. Cleaned up the tables regards to datatypes, relations etc...

I wonder what forum engine is used, or if someone coded it themselves. If it is a MySql db I didn't think they were great in terms of a large database solution, unless I'm mistaken?
