removing the moneysavers arms removes about a quarter of all the posts made to the site, that would free up some space(coupled with use of the 'Thanks' button).......

I wonder what forum engine is used, or if someone coded it themselves. If it is a MySql db I didn't think they were great in terms of a large database solution, unless I'm mistaken?

    vBulletin 3.0.6

Hazzarding a guess but this forum is well within the capability of MySQL.

Out with tables and in with css! Should reduce each page by about 25-40% in terms of size.

Nice one irnbru, will go check it out. Not really a PHP guy though, more Java/.Net.

Actually started writing a forum in .Net myself, very easy to see how it can get bloated. Wouldn't have thought such a user base would make it run this slow though.

Would be nice to give it (the whole site) a makeover, or get together a group of people (developers) that could help give some input.

Its only just come back to normal for me. This has been happening all too often just lately. Is there any reason for it?

I thought it was my computer which was up the creek as its an old work model but then realized it is the site. Thought it was really up the creek when it said I couldn't post any replies or do anything then realized I was n't logged in as I had given up trying to access the site through my email threads as it just wasn't happening!!
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

  • It takes me back to my dial-up days, keep nipping to the fridge while a page loads. Thought this site was all about increasing my wealth, not my waistline.
