I hope this thread will stay in money saving OS. As growing your own veggies is very much a money saving OS.
I also have access to a lot of extra space this year as my brother is renting a house with a huge garden and it already has a veggie patch there. So plan to get some potatoes in once dug over. Both mids and lates. Not sure if it is to late for earliers yet will need to check that out.
Well this year I plan to grow.
Lettuce
Rocket
Mixed Salad leaves
Runner Beans
Beetroot
Radish
Spring Onions
cabbages Primo and Savoy (for the winter)
Cucumber (Any one have luck with these as I don't, get them to flowering stage pollante (sp?) by hand and then they die off.)
Broccoli
Kale
And cress but that will be indoors
All those above will be no cost as the already have the seeds from last year. But will need to pay money for some potato sets. And to get some more muck to dig in as the garden is on clay so holds the water and has been very boggy this autumn winter.
Just need to get all the packets out have a look and start planning the space and planting times. And on the hunt for a cheap or free greenhouse would be nice.
So what are you going to grow this year.
Yours
Calley

Hello - if you'd like to post your questions etc here on the April update then the OSers will be more likely to see and respond.
I'm still a newbie gardener, so can't help much I'm afraid - am better at tidying up web pages than gardens...!!

I grow veg and fruit that is expensive to buy... ingore spuds other than earlies for treat and flavour, and grow rocket, courgettes, etc. strawberries tray frozen are lovely, or frozen as puree for smoothies .. GREAT.
Allotments can be shared... I stared of with older person who needed help.. I scored for Knowledge and he scored for my staying powerr and fresh youth! Ask at the local allotment Association. Another tip is to join the local Allotment asssoc.even if you have not got an allotment, and therefore their shop and get your garden goodies cheaper!!!!0 -
