Job Interview with DWP

Just a quick question.
I've seen the ads for EO on direct.gov website and wondered if it was worth me applying.
I've never worked for the civil service but I am a professional with a degree and a professional qualification but currently out of work. There is little chance of me getting a post within my own field in the area where I live and I can't re-locate (the posts seem to go to young ones and I'm in my 50s.)
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.0 -

I am trying to find out more details of exactly where the posts will be - locally to myself.0 -
Hmm, ones in my area have gone straight to stage 4 without even being at Stage 3? How is that "fair" to existing Civil Servants?0

I used to do this job years ago and it was the worst job I've ever had. You've got to be a REALLY nasty piece of work person to get on there and I just didn't fit the bill. Good luck to anyone who's going to do that job. Your going to need it. I don't think I could live with the knowledge that I will be sanctioning people with kids because they didn't turn up to a job interview 35 miles away. How do they sleep at night?0

Hey guys just wondering if anyone could advise me, i am in the process of applying for two EO positions. I have recently completed the online test and scored 98% but have yet to receive an email stating I am through to the interview stage. Has anyone else had one yet? and does anyone know what the pass mark is?
Also does anyone know if you get to the interview stage do you have to talk about the examples on the application form or can you use different ones?
Thank you0 -
Its not uncommon for another test to be administered (paper version) after the electronic one so you may find that's the next step.
I doubt they will do any interviews until all the testing is complete i.e the vacancy closes.
Normally they prefer new competencies, they've already seen your old one and they should be more details and are scored on a scale of 0-9 for each competency, you need minimum scores in each category and they will rank candidates who passed by total score which normally determines your place on the successful list or waiting list.
Then again this exercise is a bit different as a lot of department AO's will be going for EO roles and internally they've had atleast a weeks heads up on when the jobs would be posted.0 -
Thank you Twinkle - I don't suppose I've anything to lose but the time completing the application.
Charityworker - I need a job. I've had too long on the wrong side of the jobcentre desk!
The ones in my immediate area are stage 4 (I have a relative who works for civil service and he looked for me.) The ones advertised to the general public are about 35 miles away. Not great but a damned sight better than trying to survive on JSA.0 -

Stage 4 is public, 3 is internal. I imagine you've just that the wrong way round :}
Stage 1 - Internal, level moves
Stage 2 - Exclusive 10 day period for surplus/pre-surplus staff in all departments at their current grade
Stage 3 - Vacancies advertised to all staff, regardless of grade or department within a region
Stage 4 - External recruitment0 -
I have discovered that MANPOWER are NOT the contract holders for the interview procedure
Does anyone know who is ?
and whilst I agree with charityworker that some of the present DWP employees need the proverbial kick up the backside - there are plenty of decent hard working people who are more than willing to help those less fortunate than themselves - If you are sucessful and get a job - it is your choice, which group you choose to join....0
