Thanks

Hey Wendy,
I wouldn't worry about the lenght of time it takes to hear from the DWP, unfortunally they are very slow and everything runs through their head office in Newcastle.
When i applied i had my tests the last week in July, Then an interview a week later then i waited till 1st week of Sept till i found out i had been sucessful in the interview and am still waiting to see if i get a job at the end of it. So you have to be patient, as its one big waiting game.
Good luck0 -
Gatrgantuan I meant to add you can also use examples for your life outside work in these kinda questions. If you have been in a club or society or organised things or done voluntary work etc.. all this can be useful stuff.I have even used informal things like arranging train travel for people going to footy away games etc..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Hi everyone,
I went for the tests and interview today for AO positions in London.
The literacy test had mostly spelling mistakes/grammatical mistakes:
definitely X2
ensure X2
enquireX1
its instead of it's
need instead of needed
postcode doesn't have full capital letters
separatedX1
I got 14/15 for this one, I can't remember the rest, but I will post them if I remember.
The numeracy test is 20 questions, I got 16/20 - you have to use the information included in six tables of data and then do basic sums. They give you a calculator. Just make sure you are looking at the correct table.
5 out of 15 people got through in total.
The interview was 4 questions and I was asked:
Tell me about a time when you met a customer request.
Tell me about a time when you communicated effectively within a team.
Tell me about a time when you delivered a professional service.
Tell me about a time when you used evidence to guide your work.
I hope this helps.0 -
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for the reply. I found an e-mail address on one of the fporums. So I e-mailed them and received a reply saying:
Thank-you for your email regarding IRC62504. I can confirm that the results for this exercise have yet to go out but are due to be released towards the end of next week.
In the meantime if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks
So, you never know, we may hear something within a week or so.
I got my interview reply letter from the DWP today it said:
'I am pleased to inform you that you have been successful and we have placed you on our waiting list for 12 months.
The waiting list will last for 12 months from the date of this letter and we hope to be able to offer you a position during this time, though we cannot guarantee this. Also any pre subsequent offer of a post is subject to the satisfactory outcome of our mandatory pre-appointment enquiries.'
I rang the number on the letter and got through to a nice guy straight away. He told me I was on the merit list and was at position 67 out of 91. Not sure if this is good or bad for the IRC62504 Executive Officer's position in the West Midlands. So if anyone else has received their letters, please post your positions etc and let everyone know how you got on.

Hi all - I am new to this forum but have obtained a wealth of information from reading through this thread - so thanks!
I too applied for the EO role in London and went an interview on 12 Oct. I know it's only been 12 days but the suspense is driving me nuts! I just don't understand why everyting takes so long. Really want a job as I have been out of work since August for the first time in my life. Anyone else go for the EO position IRC62668 on this date?0 -

I went on the 9th, and am too yet to hear anything.
Although today, curiously, I got what I thought might be "the letter" but it turned out to be a confirmation that I had passed the selection tests?! A bit odd considering a) I already received one of these letters immediately after passing them b) this was before my interview which was 12 days ago now!0 -
I went on the 7th and haven't heard anything.0

Thats great advice and info....
I have a colleague whom i recommended for the AO role and is attneding this Friday at West Ham.
If you recall any of the other info please let me/all know and i will pass it on.
Am waiting on my HEO position in the interim.0 -
Unfortunately, a HEO job interview is going to be a lot tougher than an AO. Don't be surprised if you're asked to do a presentation, and are grilled by senior management etc. HEO within DWP is quite a high grade, it goes as follows:
AA (Admin Asssistant - deals with filing, photocopying, looking for documents, etc)
AO (Admin Officer - deal with day-to-day dealings with customers, process benefits, etc)
EO (Executive Office - often in charge of a team of AOs, or doing another "specialist" job (Personal Advisor in JobCentre, etc)
HEO - (Higher Executive Officer - often in charge of a team of EOs, who in turn are in charge of AOs, so you could have 100 staff underneath you)
SEO (as above but one higher, by this point you're nearing the top of the tree in you particular office)
The above is just rough and how it works where I am.0
