Well, if it was constructive waffling, in that you needed to clarify things in your example, then it shouldn't count against you. I meant the kind of waffling where you go on and on about irrelevant things, lol.

I'm not sure if that was a good thing. I was nervous at this point in the interview. I was taking prompts from my notes throughout (is this a good or bad thing?) but I was struggling for the last question and took a couple of minutes - I asked the guy to repeat the question. Is this a good or bad thing?!

For the fifth question the guy writing barely filled half a page and I was gutted then.

Try not to worry, I thought I had totally messed up the interview as I read on here that you have to pass each question as it were and my third question and fourth question were really similar so I only had one real example to give as an answer.

I didn't really understand fully the fourth question and asked the man to repeat it three times which I was really embarrased about, even more so as I knew I didn't have an example to give as an answer. The two interviewers even said it wasn't worded brilliantly (can't remember what the question was) and so I just rambled on in the hope something I said would be relevant. They didn't write a lot down compared to the other questions and so I thought I had blown it but received my successful letter on Monday so it must have been enough.

It sounds like you have given really good strong answers so try not to worry too much, plus if you've been reading this thread before your interview then you have an advantage as a lot of people would have gone in there not knowing what the interview would be like or knowing what to expect.

Good luck and let us know when you hear, you probably have done better than you think.

:D Yeah I suppose it could loosely be termed as constructive waffling - I like that analogy, it's worked it's way into my verbal dictionary!

    Thanks for the re-assuring.

How long did you have to wait until you found out you were successful?

I waited 4 weeks and about 1 or 2 days. I put it out my head and tried to forget about it as I expected a rejection letter so when I opened the letter and it was successful,I was shocked.
Guessing there will be many more weeks/months of waiting for an actual job from what I've read on these forums though, argh!

Hi, I have also applied for the same position as you (irc 62668) I was told it could take a maximum of 12 weeks to get a reply. I was also told most probably 2 weeks, but you never know. I had the interview for an hour. I just couldn't stop talking. Hope I didn't annoy them.
  • I got mines in 2 weeks for the role of Administrative officer. Please can you tell me what types of questions are in the exam.
  • I received my letter for the Lincoln position last week stating that I'd been successful in interview and they have commenced the pre-recruitment checks. I was told that would take approx 4-5 weeks and then hopefully they'd make an offer.

I'm hoping that although this letter was sent after the freeze was announced that it means there is hope of me becoming an EO. Does anyone know how you can progress within the DWP once you've been an EO?

    Thanks

    Hi dm,

Another person i met at the days at brentwood phoned them yesterday, and they did call her back so fingers crossed they will call you. I put down just Rayleigh and Southend. I am hoping that being 97th on the merit list doesnt mean I wont get a job. On the test days there were people there for ilford etc, so I am hoping that 97 isnt as bad as it seems. There was no mention on my letter about a waiting list, and the person i spoke to said i had passed all the recruitment checks, crb etc. Letters should be coming out at the end of October. My friend said she was given the number ending 6479 to ring as that is the business dept. So if i dont hear at the end of the month i will be ringing them. If you do get a call back ask what number you are on the merit list, and if you are higher than me please dont work at rayleigh or southend....lol....else i will never get a job!...lol...just kidding:D.

Will keep in touch to see how you are getting on, and will let you know if and when i hear more! Good luck!

    Spangles :o)

    Hey Spangles,

Just to update, DWP did call back and said they were still waiting on my pre- employment checks i had my crb through before i got my sucess letter so that was at least sorted. Anyway today i phoned a number ending 2420 and the lady said my checks have come back and that the are still reviewing staffing levels and that i should hear in a couple of weeks regarding a start date, no mention of merit lists or anything!!!
So i am gonna call the number you mentioned tommorrow and ask about merit lists and get back to you.

You never know we may end up working together in Rayleigh lol, will keep you updated and fingers crossed x x x
