I understand what you're saying, but as a side issue, why do people bother asking to have their credit limit reduced? Just cos it's there you don't have to use it! I've got £40,000 of cedit available to me at the moment but I'm planning on never using it again (fingers crossed)...

I'd say it's the fingers crossed at the end, there that makes people reduce their credit limit....

    nah...a PhD!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

just popping in...nowt added but want to keep an eye! Well done people on paying so much so far...am working on my 4000 challenge and actually quite peeved that my planned nsd wasnt one but also need to get a grip!! Will have one tomorrow instead lol!! Re people paying off vast sums...its hard not to feel a bit insecure when youre not but as long as people know their doing their best thats all you can ask of yourself isnt it...re the holiday and 1000 ? I would say (for what its worth!!) that you need to just ask yourself whether you really, really need a holiday and if so have a cheap n cheerful - that way you get to go but do so with the excitement of a bargain and knowing that you are ALOT closer to target! Another idea is work out how much interest you would save if you paid the money off...hard I know. I didnt have a hol last year, won one the yr before and need one this year...

    Another £50 paid off here.....

As for how we do it - well.....

OH has three jobs..........I work full time, and in my spare time teach adult ed and see occasional reflexology/hypnotherapy clients.

We rent out out spare room to a student, and have done for 5 years - we would much rather have the space to ourselves but want desperately to get the debt down.

I sold our second car, so now we manage with one, and the bus.

Free b!ngo, scratchcards, ebay, amazon, mystery shopping, car boot sales......

Budgeting, not having sky, not having takeaways, not having a holiday, not having a life (hence my post count on here :rotfl: )

    And stuff like that...........:D

In my case I asked for it to be reduced to stop me from spending after I paid it off the first time. The limit was increased again, bit by bit, and I spent it again. So now I'm paying it off again and the second it gets to zero I'll be closing it - and the same goes for all my other cards.

I hope, really, that my credit file is trashed by having no credit at all - that way when my resolve weakens it'll be tough luck as no-one will lend me any money!

I have to say - you're doing that, and also the no doubt considerable task of keeping tabs on our payments just to help us out - you really are an inspiration. Thank you very much indeed and I truly hope you reach your goal very soon as you clearly deserve to!

It is a pain, but we have managed now for 6 months. It is a case of make do really, and each be a little more organised/tolerant!

We have to accept that at the moment we can't afford to run two cars, so that's all there is to it really! Hopefully by the end of the year, though, we will be able to start considering another one.......
