Hello there - a quick update - well 2009 was a very good year for me as apart from my car loan and the mortgage I and OH have absolutely NO credit card debts (which were over 14k last year) or overdraft. First time in 12 years of married life.. Wayhey!! Looking forward to this new year with confidence and a better attitude to money and have also joined the 2012 mortgage challenge with Financial Bliss and Maz 123 - so heres to slashing the mortgage (oh and will pay off car loan if get a chance as thats on a higher interest rate so would make sense but seems less fun somehow!!).. have a great 2010 everyone

My god don't be embarrassed, that's great! So what's the total you paid off so hypno can add it to the total? Well done!

Thanks Sarah.. lovely to hear from you..am rubbish at posting regularly as funnily enough :o this new job pays well but also makes me work for it!! - it was about £9988 in final credit card payments, an overdraft which fluctuated but around £2500 and I made reasonable progress earlier this year (last record showed £6564.17 paid off in April - wish we could save signatures as can't precisely recall) so I reckon £19052.17 is a good bet.

Have a brilliant 2010 and thanks again Hypno and crew for all the support

All of your totals are great, I have signed on for the new 2010 challenge, I want to get £10,000 paid off, how do you all do it, is it through wages, cutting back etc.

lauhen, it will be a combination of lots of things - all of which are gleaned from the ideas on the various MSE boards.

So, for example you will already make your standard monthly payments to the debt - the capital element of those will count towards the challenge.

You then aim to make additional payments - by budgeting better, and having more disposable income to throw at the debt, by doing a bit of overtime, or taking on a second job to bump up your income, doing mystery shopping, ebaying, blah blah blah!

That way, whatever you do, and however you do it will work for you -there are no hard and fast rules as such, the only rule being that you aim to be in significantly less debt at the end of this year than you were at the end of last!

Thankyou hypno, it is much appreciated, I have put myself down for this years challenge, and I am looking forward to paying them off, especially barclaycard.

Hi there - I have belatedly joined a cashback site (Quidco but does take £5 as membership - believe there are others that don't) Lauhen as had to book a hotel for later in the month and used that - only £9.20 cashback (well £4.20 really!) but its a start and I mean to use this whenever I know I have to buy something or book something on line. Big range of shops and suppliers - I was pleasantly surprised. I have decided to put all my 'cashback' money towards mortgage overpayments. You could do the same for your credit cards etc.
