NEW - pay off £20,000 (ish) by Christmas 2009

I have a few updates to my smaller challenge of wanting a free christmas or as near to one as possible, i have shown these in my signature.0

I was thinking - we're coming up to the halfway mark in June - would it be possible to update the front page with how everyone's doing? We could either put the amount we've paid off so far or the percentage, or something like that. A bit of an incentive to get on with it and reach our targets and see how everyone else is doing? I don't know if that would be horribly too much work Hypno, if it is, I'll get my coat....
OK, if everyone puts in BIG NUMBERS how much they have paid off at the end of MAY, I will put it on the first post as an update.
BUT, it makes it really difficult if people just say "see my signature" because everyone's is so different, and lots of people have different challenges with different numbers in, and it makes it hard for me to pick out the right one!
So.....YES, if people put their totals in the main text of a post AT THE END OF MAY!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

You can do it Unixgirl!
I have paid off another £10 to evil Egg today - courtesy of a mystery shop visit.......Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I have paid off another £10 to evil Egg today
Can i ask why you keep saying Egg are evil? Is it the fact that you have debt with them and class all debt evil (fair enough maybe) or have they screwed you over somehow?
(and no, this isnt a troll... valid post as i have debt with them too)

No, not evil because they are debt - I am happy to pay all of my debt, including interest, every penny.
However, Egg for me seem to be one of those companies that just can't get it right and keep it right.
Their computers once set my direct debit from my normal monthly payment of £397 down to nil.....it was at the same time my Dad died, so I didn't notice it for a couple of months but as soon as I did I brought it to their attention - they said sorry, their error entirely, and we agreed how I would catch up the two missing payments.... That should have been the end of it, but instead of taking my debit card payment for the missing payments, they referred me to a debt collecting agency, and slapped a default on my file. Capquest started relentlessly ringing me, home, work, mobile, a dozen times a day. And of course they were not prepared to accept that it was Egg's error - "oh, everyone says it is not their fault".....
It took a year, very stressful, to get it back to Egg, and back on track. At one point, at its worst, I remember saying in tears, on the phone, that I can understand why people throw themselves under trains.......strangely enough, at that point, Egg sorted things out.
I work very hard to keep up to date with my payments - I have to....I would lose my job if I had an adverse credit rating, so to have this sort of thing happen to me is just awful.
Sadly, they have done similar things twice since - once putting on my credit file that I was in a debt management plan (never have been) and I had to go and speak to my compliance officer at work about it......and obtain proof that I was solvent.
So....that's why I am keen to get my loan paid off as quickly as I can!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Oh dear, sounds like you have had a bad experience with them
I can understand why you want shot of them.
its just that so far *touch wood* ive found their loan probably the best suited to my situation... overpayments rock! But if i had been treated the same as you i would be livid, so fair enough - thanks for answering (its been bugging me for a while lol)14/12/2009 - Official Debt Free Day

Be careful with the overpayments - I make regular overpayments to my loan (as you can see from this challenge).
But if those overpayments are made within 14 days prior to my normal direct debit being taken, Egg seem perfectly able to take my normal direct debit payment and then "lose" it in their system......and then start the relentless phone call bombardment of "you are behind with your payments" without being able to actually understand that I have not only been paying my normal regular contracted payment, but also pay every couple of days as well!! Despite faxing over my bank statements etc to prove they have taken my money out as they requested, they still don't seem able to sort it!
When it works, it works well - when it doesn't it is absolutely horrid. Credit due to them though - last time they messed up, they sent me a case of wine as an apology.....:DSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Also, I think egg will be as pleased to be rid of me, as I will be to be rid of them.........I think my account is cursed in some way, yet it shouldn't be - I am actually a very good customer :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
