I've just been given a Tefal 4 in 1 Rice Cooker for my birthday. I asked for a slow cooker and my fab parents gave me this instead. I understand from the rest of the thread that the rice it produced is great but would love to know anyone's slow cooking results/tips/ideas/advice. I'm a bit wary cos it's only got 1 heat setting and I've never used a slow cooker before.JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0

I love rice but can't cook it unless it comes in a microwaveable packet (uncle bens 2 mins stuff) but its £1 odd a bag. I live alone and love rice if this would be ok for cooking rice for one it would pay its self back in no time.

We bought one today in the argos sale
Cookworks rice cooker
The bowl sits proud of the lip
There is a round what looks like a spring in centre
The instructions say twist & turn but there is nothing that it bites on to make it sit flush ?
Are we the only idiots who can't do this ?"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

I have got a rice cooker from Hong Kong and I wouldn't be without it - I can just put the rice on and concentrate on the rest of dinner0

Ive just brought a cheap rice cooker as i want to bulk out some of our meals with rice as currently we tend to just have a large bowl of chilli, this way i can cut down the amount of mince in each portion
I havent tried it as yet but i will let you know how i get on.

I picked up a Breville Rice Cooker and Steamer from Argos the other day and I've had mixed experiences.
I first followed the instructions to the letter, a rinse in cold water then added one rice (white basmati) and 1 water and it came out under done and slightly burnt. So, I tried again but put in 1 rice to 2 water. Much better but almost a little too watery. Felt I had to stir in the middle despite not saying so in instructions.
I then tried the steamer function. Carrots were fine, but frozen peas just fell through the big holes in the steamer (and they are listed in the instruction manual as being something you can steam).
So does anyone who has this or a similar machine have any good tips? I'm beginning to wonder if theres any benefit at all above the old pan method?

I have an old one I picked up a few years ago. My Chinese flat mate whilst I was at uni taught me a useful tip. Put the amount of rice in you need in the bottom. Wash out the exess starch if necessary (dependent on what rice you are cooking). Now put water in so that it covers your fingers if you put them flat on the bottom - so your arm is sticking up in the air. Works just about every time for me and no measuring out. Not so good for brown rice but everything else works.0

I can't help with this problem I am afraid, but if you decide to give something else a try, I have one of the microwave steamers. I find it very good, I used to hate cooking rice on the hob. You can also steam other things in it.
I got mine from Lakeland, but other places may have them too.0
