Sounds like a good thing, let me know if you find a good deal on one, I've been considering another SC smaller for single meals etc, and a good excuse would be to buy a multi function. Think they are £50 ish on Amazon, just had a nosey.

Do you wash the rice before cooking it ? I always wash through a seive until the water runs clear or almost, usually stops the mess from cooking.

  • i have the tefal 3 in 1 too, and we have a separate rice cooker. i haven't used the tefal for rice because i use our slowcooker. it's a really basic one from IKEA - i've no idea if they still do them but it's nothing special and cooks decent rice with no effort!

i find the tefal thing a bit awkward because you can't set it to come on later in the day (so it won't be ready for when you come home unless it's been on all day) and because it's much more efficient than most slow cookers the 1 hour cooking increments don't give you much control. it's also hard to use receipes from books etc becasue the cooking times are always totally wrong. so don't worry about not picking that one! it's good, but it takes lots of time to work out how to use it well.

Just checked on Ikea's website and none listed on there. Thanks for the info on the Tefal one.

Yes I wash the rice. Mum would probably disown me if I didn't (even though she's 150 miles away). Don't know why but she's manic about washing rice.

It needs to cover the base of the cooker about 0.25 cm high, I think. However, I would do a bit more and freeze it in portions to microwave another day.

Hi, If I am only cooking rice for one I use the microwave. For two portions up the rice cooker is fine. I much prefer rice cooked in the rice cooker - didn't think about cooking double and freezing half . Thanks Wyebird.

    Sorry, can't help
I have one lurking at the back of a cupboard that I have never used (rice cooker, not cupboard)

Can they be used to cook anything else?
