Reindeer food and tags (merged)

I've made reindeer food with oats and sugar crystals coloured with food colouring.
Real glitter is harmful to birds so best to avoid or if using, sweep up the 'food' once kiddies are tucked up in bed asleep.
I used the tags on this site... http://organizedchristmas.com/magic-reindeer-food
I've also bought a plate decorating set from M&S (£5 but got as part of 3 for 2 so was cheaper) for my eldest to decorate to put Santa's cookies on (also making these on Xmas Eve). I was going to use a paper plate and give to him to colour but saw the cute plate in M&S and couldn't resist! The plate is something we can keep and use for years to come too. If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
I've heard a lot about this from a colleague but she couldn't remember the name of the charity who published it! Managed to track it down now - the guide's called Batteries Not Included...

Thank you so much for the link, I've just ordered a copy to see what else we can do in the run up to Xmas:wave: If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -

sorry that I did not post the link was having a dizzy moment lol, but have to say I highly recomend it.
There is an idea in it for making an indoor snow man. I did this but I used a washing basket upside down coverd in a white padded sheet and a white bowl turned upside down. I then added hat and scarf and stuff, I cnt find the pic of it any more wish I could but never mind. Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.0 -
I really missed doing this sort of thing when my Daughter grew up (she is now 30)....so I sometimes still do it!!!
Hubby thinks I'm mad!!
Always used to put out a little glass of sherry and a mince pie for Santa, and a carrot for Rudolph.
When she got up on Christmas morning, there would be nibbles out of the mince pie and carrot....but all of the sherry had been drank!!
Santa must be be very thirsty....I used to tell her.
Sometimes used to sprinkle icing sugar near the back door and get Hubby and the dog to walk in it to look like Santas and Rudolphs foot steps in snow.
Made a bit of a mess...but looks good.
Nice idea about the bird food though.....wish I had thought of that.
I'm feeling all Christmassy thinking about it.

Lovely,we do this too and although santa in our house still prefers a little sherry dd(6)decided last year that we really should leave out a glass of fresh orange or some coke instead as she didnt want santa to get drunk before he finished delivering all the presents.:D"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
I did a search but couldn't properly answer the questions I had!
I am going to make some up for the craft fair im doing at the weekend:
What have you all used for standard 'glitter'? (obviously normal glitter would pose several environmental isses!)
What are you bagging it up in? Ive seen mentioned on here the organza bags, but do these work out cost effective?
Is there a 'ditty' to go on these or should I actually get down to creating a 'poem' :rotfl:
Thanks in advance:cool:0 -
Here is the poem i use on mine
when santa's sleigh is full of toys
ready or christmas day,
use this magic christmas dust,
to help him find his way.
just sprinkle it outside your door,
the glitter will give a light,
the raindeer will smell the oats,
and bring santa on christmas night.
some people used sugar instead of glitter with food colouring mixed in
I made these with my children last christmas and they made them from brown envolopes. (i will try and post a picture so you know what i mean)
hope this helpsBaby Due Date 30/01/ 2013

Here are a couple of poems:Reindeer Food Sprinkle this magic reindeer food outside your house on Christmas Eve. The reindeer will see it from the sky and land at your house. On Christmas Eve, before you sleep,
Step outside and take a peek.
Can you see them? Are they near?
You don't think so? Never fear!
On the lawn, do this simple deed:
Sprinkle this packet of special feed. The glow of the stardust,
the smell of oats,
Will draw to YOUR house
those special folks!
They can't miss you now,
there's nothing to fear.
This mix will draw Santa
and his famous reindeer.
On Christmas Eve when Santa flies,
And everything is dark,
He needs a way to rest his sleigh,
So at your house he'll park. Please go outside on Christmas Eve,
And sprinkle this around
This bag of Magic Reindeer Food,
Ensures your house will be found. The smell of oats that Rudolph loves,
And sparkling colors bright,
Will show the way for Santa's sleigh,
And keep your house in sight. On Christmas day when you awake,
In a bright and happy mood,
You'll see that Rudolph found and ate,
your "Magic Reindeer Food." Merry Christmas!
As for the glitter - you could always use some of the coloured sprinkles that you find in the cooking aisle. It would add something colourful to it.
Hope that helps. xxx0 -

Cooking isles usually have a wide range of edible glitter and cake decorations.
Look a bit more special than 100s and 1000s and i think they'd work really well.0
