Reindeer food and tags (merged)

I did this last year with my Daughter , 3 at the time.
We were only in our house for a few months and some of the kids in the street were out playing so she invited them in, ended up with 7 kids making Reindeer dust with them all round the table.
I had a really good rhyme (which i now can't find) that i had printed and cut into little tags , we scooped into bags and added the tags and ribbons , writing each childs name on the tags
I used Oats and some sprinkles for decorating cakes and have to confess i did use glitter too , it was really small and fine so hopefully no damage done to the animals.
The kids were all really into and dead excited, so on christmas eve all the kids were out sprinkling their paths with their "Magic Dust", the neighbours without kids must have thought we had gone mad, every other house had an "oaty" path :rotfl:
This year still planning on using the oats and cake sprinkles , but now thinkin of adding some food colouring to sugar and mixing this in0 -
We don't have a chimney now either , so last year my sister got one of those Santa keys for my daughter.
She was amazed , but worried he would forget to lock the door behind him !!!
We hung it from the letter box from the inside on long ribbon , I Stuck a little shiny santa sticker on the outside of the letterbox and told her santa would know this is where to find the key, and showed her how he would be able to put his hand in and pull out the magic key
She also made a really nice card for him , and we wrote inside how thankful she was for all the gifts , we hoped he found his way to our new house ok, and reminded him to have his milk and biscuit.
We leave some shorbread, glass of milk and some carrots. I wrote a little note that said thanks for the food and milk , sorry didn't have time to finish the biscuit , must dash got lots of houses still to visit and i'll see you next year , love Santa x
It really is the most amazing expereince seeing her face as you read the note and she see's he's munched on the shortbread... best present ever0 -
I love all these ideas
I did the santa key with my little boy last year becasue we livei n a flat and he questioned how father christmas would get in.
and it was his job to pour santa his milk, pick some biscuits for him and put a carrot for rudolph which he loved doing - never thought to leave a note for him - that would be sweet wouldnt it.
My little boy gets new pyjamas which his magic friend delviers every year before santa comes and he usually sneaks in whilst we are in the bath but we can never catch him in the act despite our dog Bruno hearing him sneaking past.
Will be making some santa magic dust for ben this year so he can sprinkle that outside for the reindeer to nibble on whilst they wait for father christmas
Im hoping to do something special this year to - Im hoping to get a stencil of a boot print and use some sort of flour/water paste and make foot print marks on the floor round all the presnts so it looks like father christmas has been walking round our living room with his snowy boots on. was going to just walk through flour but i want the footprints to stay in place so he can see them.Time to find me again0 -
can i ask whats a santa key thanks
also fab ideas everyone0 -
Try ebay for the keys.
I did the floor thing too I added glitter to make it sprakle put a pile of glitter and flour mix and pressed my dads boot into it. I did this in the hall as we have lino there. In the room I dused the boot with the floor and pressed it onto the floor and it works.
The children societ printed a book last year with good ideas in, it is very good. Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.0 -
I used to get hubbie to tramp around in the garden leading up to the house - in the snow - with his size 12 wellies on Christmas Eve.....helps that I live in Aberdeen I suppose! Also put a boot on a long pole and left footprints on the roof we could reach ...lol...
Also left bitten off bits of carrot in the garden, (after small son had carefully put whole ones out there) ...no wonder I need help with my teeth....
He is now 18, in his own flat, doesn't ever call and never answers his mobile....but hey, Christmas was magical!Life.

Bring it on! :j0 -

We used to find muddy raindeer footprints on the front step (I think made with the end of a largish bamboo stick) and leaves blown into the hallway.0 -

I've heard a lot about this from a colleague but she couldn't remember the name of the charity who published it! Managed to track it down now - the guide's called Batteries Not Included...

The Card Factory sold Santa Keys last year for 99p
Last year they where on display by the tills.
I'm not sure if they have them this year but definately did last yearLove is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0
