  • I use the net Favor bags like you get at weddings and a small elastic band as that makes it look really pretty and you can do different colours each year. I guess it only works if you are making loads as i think you get about 25 in a bag but thought i would post anyway.

  • my youngest son got a bag of this from his 4+ teacher when he had his first christmas at school and thought it was fantastic, we refill the bag each year but i'll go for the 100's and 1000's option as glitter isnt good for the wildlife who may choose to eat it after its guided the reindeer down

    the label teacher used said

On christmas eve sprinkle this magic reindeer food on your path. The magic glitter sparkling in the moonlight and the smell of the oats will guide santa and his reindeers to your house.

she used little cotton bags she'd made from christmas pattern printed cotton with a ribbon tie at the top

its part of our christmas ritual now

  • Hi All

I use bird seed with 100s and 1000s in it and sprinkle on the lawn. The bird food can then be eaten by the birds!

My children think its wonderful and really look forward to christmas eve when they put out the sherry and mince pie for Santa and the reindeer magic dust!

Enjoy Christmas whatever you may do ....
  • Photos of my reindeer food, i used old sweety jars couldnt get the sticky labels completely off so covered with wrapping paper, inside jar mixed glitter with oats and covered with cellophane left over from hamper

what about coloured dust for cake makers? You get it in asda now, looks like glittery eyeshadow!

It's edible so shouldn't harm wildlife.

I must do this for my kids, I have porridge oats....
  • Was just going to mention the edible glitter - you beat me to it tiamai! I used to decorate cakes for a living so I have loads of this lying around, it's what I've used for reindeer food in the past. It's edible, dissolves in water and is no less environmentally friendly than 100s and 1000s - it also disappears more quickly so you can see that it's been 'eaten' :) I mentioned glitter in the other thread and totally forgot to mention that I used the edible stuff - I made this with young children and I know what they're like for 'tasting' everthing!!

Where is 'the other thread' which people are referring to?
  • We made some for our school fair with edible glitter and oats wrapped up in brightly coloured crepe paper.

    The verse on it read:

"If you go out on Christmas night
When the moon is shining bright
    Sprinkle this upon the ground
Then by Santa you'll be found!"

  • A cheap & easy little gift for the kids...reindeer food!!

Buy some bird food & glitter, pour it into a plastic bag & decorate as you please.

The kids can throw it onto the garden when it becomes dark & it looks really pretty. I told the kids last year that the glitter makes the garden light up so Santa knows where to land & the reindeers have something to eat while they're waiting.

They loved it & got really excited! Bless!
