Like many others (60,000+ views on this thread!) I spent several hours reading this entire thread today. Very inspiring, thanks so much Jim and everyone for this. I hope you're going to keep updating, Jim? In particular seeing the scans of the scary letters is very informative, especially when you can share your new-found insights into how serious they really are.
I also just went through the 'debt-free roll of honour' thread which I'm sure reassures loads of others as it did me.
Up until today I had been staring in despair at my totally obsessive spreadsheet with graphs showing how my CC debts are *still* rising, despite it being more than 18 months since I thought I'd got things under control...
Now I realise there are plenty of folk with much worse problems than myself, and there are lots of you who've come out the other side.
Thanks everyone for sharing.
Hi zhatorna and welcome. It is always so scary at the beginning because most of it is unknown and its the not knowing that will scare you the most. Will they come and take my car? Will my television be taken, who will be beating down the door? Well in most cases nobody will, no matter what you are told. Once you can see beyond the threats and understand what is most likely to happen- poor credit rating-, but why would you now want any more credit? I never want any ever again so when they threaten me with "failure to pay may effect your credit rating or ability to get credit in the future", I am thinking "good", so it no longer becomes a threat or a worry.
No matter what you read in this thread I am still worried and struggling, but I feel I am in control and have a way out. At the moment I am behind with my council tax and I owe this years maintenance charge on my flat which was due end of Sept but will be paid mid November.- Unfortunately I slightly misjudged my figures by a few pounds when I replace my car last month (as you may have already read my plans to run the car for free should mean that it will pay for itself with in a year, giving me further opportunity to catch up with the council tax) and I missed my payment to payplan for the first time, although I have since made the payment but it didn't prevent a flood of threatening letters. My fixed mortgage deal will come to an end in December so I will go onto the svr which will be about £150 cheaper than I am locked into at the moment.
I consider my debt like a game of chess. I am manoeuvring my costs and expenses into a stronger gameplan- it just takes a long time, however once the flat maintenance is paid and my tax is up to date I am ready to face the year ahead- I am even thinking about either carpets or double glazing- these are the goals I have set my self.
Wow, it's been a while since I have ranted like this. If there is anything I can help anyone with just post. Jim.0 -
One night, as a couple lays down for bed, the husband starts rubbing his wife's arm.
The wife turns over and says 'I'm sorry honey, I've got a gynaecologist appointment tomorrow and I want t stay fresh.'
The husband, rejected, turns over.
A few minutes later, he rolls back over and taps his wife again.
'Do you have a dentist appointment tomorrow too?'

Well things were going so well and I planned to be up to date with everything by the end on November.
My lodger has just informed me he's moving out at the end of November which will be a real shame as he's brilliant (never here!) Finding some one shouldn't be a problem, its just all the nutters and psychos out there that I have to contend with and Latvian's sending me emails to doss on my floor with thier families.
I will have a £400 short fall in November so my plans of visiting my folks are up the creek and I am meant to be spending a day in London during my week off.0 -

X Factor-
I thought "great, rock week" this should wake up the neighbours. Utter tosh. Keane ? Pleaseeeeeeeeeee. Not one of them grabbed the bull by the horns. The judges might as wll give up and just let them sing what they want. Joe can do YMCA. Danyel can do the Timewarp and Rachel (my fav) can sing anything by K.D.Lang. The twins- dont get me started but it was more the 5ive version (copyright Simon Cowell). Freddie has turned in his grave. Again. Cant wait for the results and for Bon Jovi to show then how it should have been done.0 -
Well I've got the room advertised- nothing yet but it's only been a day. I know someone who I thought would jump at the chance and he just shrugged and said he wasn't interested so I hit a couple of local websites, one free the other £12.
I am off on a begging trip next week to see if bank of mum and dad can help me out, I haven't told them the purpose of the visit but since my fuel supply is free I have nothing to lose. I have already been invited to see Saxon @ Rock City Nottingham on Monday and had to think on my feet of a reason not to go (have no money), I think my Dad is a bit suspicious.
I have next week off work and was planning to go to London and finally, yes finally pay to go in St Paul's ( have found 20% off ticket) and a friend has booked for A Christmas carol at the theatre. I have called her up and advised that this may not be happening and explained why, she was very understanding, but I still feel pretty lousy letting her down like this.
My trusty canon digital camera has packed up, it has travelled the world with me since 2004 and I never realised just how much I used it.. Dear Santa, a digital camera, Pamela Anderson, a machine that prints money, a six pack.......0 -
