aaah, I understand how you feel (though i hate oasis, sorry!), I was gutted and very depressed when my favourite band split up in '95! It's like the end of an era when you are really really into that band, and in my case, my choices in life pretty much revolved round them!
Still, you can follow their solo efforts (if they make them), and in my case, the band in question reunited last year and I got to go and see them tour last November, it was amazing, totally took me back to my teenage years!
You know, I was only bemoaning the lack of TFI Friday the other day - that was an ace show!0 -
Hi Jim
I always read your posts, but have never posted before. I know just how you feel about Oasis. To be honest, haven't really been into their recent stuff, but throughout the 90's, Britpop ruled!! Definitely my era.
I feel quite sad, and it makes me feel old
Hope your day improvesProud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Being a young man in the 90's I hated Take That (although secretly thought Back for good was pure genius and have hit the dance floor to Relight my fire on many occasions) but I am really pleased that they are back together and doing superb business without any cheesy nostalgia and all four of them being really nice and down to earth. I will be looking forward to Robbie's solo effort in October as Trevor Horn has made some brilliant records in the past so it should be interesting- and I thought Rudebox was really good, I don't know why but all the swearing appealed to me !0

I have just been for a stroll to the library (I know it's Saturday morning and already I have done Tesco, haircut and a walk to the park and it's not even 10am yet) and I saw this Bench dedicated to a lady called Sandra Carey Boggans who died last year aged 44 leaving behind her husband and two children. I guess it was her birthday yesterday and the family have done this-
I stopped and stood there for a few minutes and felt glad that the local yobbos haven't trashed it, sad for Sandra but happy for her family that they have this bench on the park by the cricket pitch in the village which will get lots of use by others, and that they have the opportunity to come every year and remember there Mum. I am crying now.
The inscription on Sandra's bench reads: “A beautiful and amazing lady with an inspiration to life.
“Adored by her husband Tom and sons Jacob and Lewis. You will always be in our hearts. Sleep well Princess. xx”0 -

I am not totally gutted as we all know in a few years after a few solo efforts they'll be back. Even if they tour separately they'll have no problem selling out arenas, who wouldn't want to see Liam sneering majestically in a smaller venue and Noel will be finally free to make the record he so desperately wants to do.
I have been playing "stand by me" all day yesterday, it's my current favourite along with Supersonic and Acquiesce. Have started reading "superstar DJ's" in the remainder of the sunshine, or should that be sunshiiiinnnnnnnnnnnne ! Very good book all about the rise of the superclubs in the 90's and how it shaped British culture.0 -
In attempt to save money and economise I have been recording weekly energy use for the last 52 weeks through the excellent i-measure site - http://www.imeasure.org.uk - I am now trying to work out if I would be better off switching suppliers and it is very complicated evening using https://www.energyhelpline.com .
My consumption for the last year was-
Gas-8493 kwh £253.17 33.5p per kwh
Elec-3349 kwh £336.29 9.9p per kwh
Total spent £589.46.
Now energyhelpline says that npower sign online 16 is the cheapest @ £597 per year and I have just checked with uswitch as they concour.
this is what I currently pay with British Gas-- Gas unit rates: 7.023p per kWh 3.278p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a
- Electricity unit rates: 22.855p per kWh 10.11p per kWh above 500 kWh p.a
Gas unit rates: £57.752 Annual standing charge 3.376p per kWh
Electricity unit rates: £57.752 Annual standing charge 8.946p per kWh
It all seems terribly complicated with standing charges and I am thinking maybe I am better off staying with BG, or is that what they want me to do and if I switch it will be dead easy and I'll save money. I wish I'd never looked now !
I have looked at ebico through recommendation and they would cost £740.07- so thats a no go.
Ahhhh its doing my head in. I've got my current tariff wrong, it should be-- Gas unit rates: 6.806p per kWh 3.264p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a
- Electricity unit rates: 19.163p per kWh 8.477p per kWh above 500 kWh p.a

After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security.
The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's licence
to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realised I had left my
wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have
to go home and come back later.
The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my
curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof
enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application.
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the
Social Security office..
She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have got
disability, too.'0 -
Hi Jim,
I've been thinking about changing my electricity supplier (we don't have gas available where we live). When I went on Uswitch it also told me that Npower would be cheaper - at the moment I am with Southern Electric. However, I haven't looked into it as deeply as you have done. As you say the whole thing is a minefield and I don't know whether to change or not! If I do decide to change do I just cancel my DD with Southern Electric or do I have to phone them up and let them know? My nightmare would be for something with the switchover to go horribly wrong and be without electricity and then have to pay some extortionate sum to be re-connected!Debt free and Keeping on Track0 -
I Think it is a bit more straight forward (hopefully). You apply with the new company who then notify your current supplier. You are then given a switch-over day and all you do is take your metre reading which goes to your present and new supplier. They then calculate your bill and from that moment onwards you pay the new rate and bill to Npower.
A small part of me thinks that it is deliberate complicated so people are less likely to change, for me it would be a saving of £46 a year- is it worth for the hassle I may receive, or am I being a mug for paying £46 more for the same thing I could be getting cheaper elsewhere? Also how accurate is uswitch etc? At least I know my consumption and the likely cost of my usage, the downside is in the winter when I turn the heating on I now know exactly how much it cost so my usage paranoia will kick in. Never a dull day....0
