Love London - made the excellent judgement to be a student and have first two jobs there. Cried when I left... :(
Wonder what the ipod stereotype originator thought their own type of music meant? All those things sound like things one doesn't say about oneself...
To keep your thread on topic - good to hear you are no longer on your uppers (in the literal sense, now you have new shoes!) and good to hear about your bonus!

    Hi,

If you want to see St Paul's and Westminster Abbey for free attend a service! I'd recommend Evensong at I think 5pm because it's relatively short and you'll also get wonderful music, except on Wednesdays when it's only Evening prayer, no music. Please check this before going as it's a long while since I've done this Walk in and out slowly to see more. You won't get to see all the side chapels but it's free.

Good tip. Westminster Abbey closes at 3pm for tourists and services start for St Paul's at 5pm. I will pay to go in next time to do the proper tour because there is so much I want to see. It just pains me I've been to Notre Dame for free, although this was on the notorious French exchange I've already written about and lets just say the French don't like you wearing hats in their churches. Dome of the rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque- Free, although you have to pay now I think- and I had a drink inside me in the Mosque at 11 am in the morning- sorry Allah. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre- free (really over the top and cheesy). Yet St Paul's feels the need to charge me £11, it just doesn't feel right, I am happy to make a donation but when I think of Jesus throwing over the tables of the money lenders in the Temple I cant see the progress made in 2000 years. Yes I know I am being tight and I am sure that is worth every penny but I am the person who was asked to leave Stone Henge because I refused to pay £5 to see MY heritage.
Anyway wont be going back until next summer and I am sure that they will have put the price up to £12 by then and I can trot out the story of when I was escorted out in 2001 for refusing to pay £5 etc. Grumble, Grumble......

Regarding the fallout over the release of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, have a look at http://www.boycottscotland.co.uk/ very clever and very tongue in cheek.
Would you rather live in a country like Scotland, which has values that allow the compassionate release of even the worst of criminals, or a country like the USA which has values such as those demonstrated in this report?

A young couple wanted to join the church, the pastor told them, 'We have
a special requirement for new member couples. You must abstain from sex
    for one whole month.'
The couple agreed, but after two-and-a-half weeks returned to the
    Church.

When the Pastor ushered them into his office, the wife was crying and
the husband was obviously very depressed. 'You are back so soon... Is
there a problem?' the pastor inquired.

'We are terribly ashamed to admit that we did not manage to abstain from
sex for the required month.' The young man replied sadly.

The pastor asked him what happened.

'Well, the first week was difficult... However, we managed to abstain
through sheer willpower. The second week was terrible, but with the use
of prayer, we managed to abstain. However, the third
week was unbearable. We tried cold showers, Prayer, reading from the
Bible...anything to keep our minds off Carnal Thoughts. One afternoon my
wife reached for a can of paint and dropped it. When she bent over to
pick it up, I was overcome with lust and I just had my way with her
right then and there. It was lustful, loud, passionate sex. It lasted
for over an hour and when we were done we were both drenched in sweat,'
    admitted the man, shamefacedly.

The pastor lowered his head and said sternly, 'You understand this means
you will not be welcome in our church.'

'We know.' said the young man, hanging his head, 'We're not welcome at
    Homebase either.'

  • Hi well done for coming on here, i have been there and i know how important it is you sort this out, as 1. you dont deserve to feel so bad and 2. if you dont deal with it it will make you ill. You really need to get as much sound advice as you can, not sure about the bankruptcy as losing you home is a last resort, i went bankrupt several years ago but had no assets it was bad enough so that should be a last resort, get some sound advice, Citizens Advice is a good one or your local law centre or there are loads of options on the internet good luck and keep your head up, you are not too blame it is all too easy to get in this mess and painful to get out. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!

I hope that things have improved since your bankruptcy. Did you find it more straight forward to carry on after you were discharged?

This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended! This is the message that the staff of Maroochydore High School, Queensland, voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes.

    The outgoing message:

Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school.. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection:

To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1

To make excuses for why your child did not do his work - Press 2

To complain about what we do - Press 3

To swear at staff members - Press 4

To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5

If you want us to raise your child - Press 6

If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7

To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8

To complain about bus transportation - Press 9

To complain about school lunches - Press 0

If you realize this is the real world and your child must be Accountable and responsible for his/her own behaviour, class work, homework and that it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and have a nice day!

If you want this in another language, move to a country that speaks it.
  • Love the answerphone message - I heard this played on my local radio station the other day, and thought it was hilarious!

So glad you had a good time in London - the walk along the river on the south bank is beautiful when its warm and sunny, one of my favourite parts of London - was born and brought up in London, moved to Hampshire 9 months ago and love it down here, but do miss lazy summer strolls by the Thames...

A day of mourning. I am going to write about a lifestyle change later on, but first.
    OASIS SPLIT.
I am absolutely gutted. I remember seeing the video for Supersonic on MTV back in the early 90's and going straight to ASDA and buying Definitely Maybe for £9.99 the day it cameout and playing it to death that night, it was like nothing I had bought before as I was into GNR, Queen and Aerosmith at this point.
I got to work the next day and was telling everyone "you have to hear this record", by the end of the week the entire country had !
Then there was Blur v's Oasis. At this time I was working in Rugby and really hated the job but every morning that summer driving there I would hear all the Britpop on the radio and it was brilliant (except the Boo Radleys who need beating with an iron bar down a dark alley imo). Getting home on Friday you would watch Chris Evans TFI Friday and it was brilliant- Sean rider swearing etc, Now Chris Evans needs beating with an iron bar down a dark alley imo.
I bought (What's the story) morning glory at Tesco in Weston Favell the day it came out along with 680,000 other people in the UK. This band can do no wrong.:T I had all the singles for the B sides, if you havent heard "Acquiese", it is heroic to put it simply.
I have all the albums and a few live dvds and always loved their interviews, a part of me has ended today. I am off to Tesco for Saturday morning big shop with my ipod blaring out Be hear now- I dont care what the critics say its my favourite album. Gutted.
