I managed to avoid any soap operas, although I know that they have all been v+, however I didn't managed to avoid 2 hours of friends parents dancing to Dr Hook ! Had a brilliant day and didn't worry (or think) about money at all, if someone had said I would have a money worry free xmas in November I would have thought that they were mad. The only mad person is me for not doing it sooner. I have recently encouraged othersd on mse to read this thread and follow the advice I was given, I know alredy that at least one other person has taken guidance and completed a soa and posted it elswhere and will probably be feeling better already.
I am currently at work (v.quiet) looking out at the blue sea and even bluer sky looking forward to the challenges next year, I know that if i have questions there are so many friends willing to spare a little time on this site to help me get... here we go, I am going to commit to it.....debt free. x.0 -

Had a letter today. A bright yellow envelope with "telemessage" written across it, a bit like a telegraph from the olden days !
On opening it says Urgent, please contact Ron on..... Kind regards.
In the very small print I've noticed it that it from the co op bank, its a little bit sneaky.0 -

Been there done that ! for me it was about 5 years ago and this is an area I can confidently offer you some advice in return. It will get better. There you go thats it. Simple as. No quick fix and it is horrible but you will get over it. The only tip I can offer is get rid of every trace of them, any clothes she bought you- throw em out, records you listen to together, get rid. Photos must go immediately, I know its hard but it is the only way. Do not be tempted to remain friends thru facebook block her now. It's a new year and a new you- go for it.
On my own sad note my Grandfather fell and banged his head on xmas day eve on the way to the bathroom, when he got to the hospital he suffered a massive stroke which he is unlikley to recover from (he's 93). He has lived a full life, a war hero, raised a good extended family ( I am the black sheep!) and over the last few years has lost most of his sight and hearing so if he does pull thru his quality of life will be greatly diminished , I am fortunate that I saw him in early December and have chosen not to go to the hospital as he wouldn't know I am there and my memory of him is at home not in a hospital bed with drips and beeps drifting away. My Grandma is coping well but my Mum is devasted. I have never really contemplted losing a parent, this sounds satrange however I am sure others would agree, you just expect people to be around forever. My Mum has managed to put her phone to his ear and I have spoken to him about the way he made me laugh as a small child and I am sure that he understood me as even though he cant speak I took the noises that he made to be a conversation. sorry cant type anymore.0 -

Jim, just spent the last half hour reading your thread from the start, firstly I would like to say I'm so sorry to hear about your grandad xx
I also wanted to say that you have been such an inspiration for this board, it can be done and you are doing it. I definately feel inspired to tidy up my debts, I did the big pay back already year before last, but there are a few scragglers that need sorting out, plus I've gone astray on the shopping/food budget, this needs to be looked at and reading this thread has given me a new buzz to do it. Thanks and good luck xxDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Jim, I just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandad. I have heard that people can often hear when they can't do anything else, and it sounds as though that's how it is with him, so your being able to speak to him on the phone was the best way of reaching him, and I'm sure he valued what you said. From the experience I had with my Dad when he had a series of strokes, his memory of the past was better than that of the present, so talking about memories is a very constructive thing. I believe it's to do with the way the brain stores older information, so it's easier to retrieve.
Anyway, I'll be thinking of you and your family through this difficult time.Miggy

Thanks for everyone's kind words, really appreciated. My Grandad died in the early hours of this morning. I am relived that it is over for him and my Mum. Have just called her and she is relived as well although devastated, apparently for the last few days he wasn't aware of anyone being with him. I am so glad that the nursing staff let Mum use her mobile on the ward so I could speak to him it has given me so much comfort being able to do that and my Mum is happy that I was able to tell him some funny stories of my memories of going on holiday with him. He intoroduced me to the wonders of a whoopee cushion- one of my best childhood memories.
If it wasn't for the help and financial advice I got from you all in November I would have never had the funds available to drive and see the family in December including my Grandad, this would have made today all the more harder.0
