I have filled the room. Lovely guy and I am very happy. Had a brilliant day in Hastings a really nice seaside town, but the highlight was the Town of Battle and the 1066 battlefield. There was no one else there and the sun shone brightly, I am actually a little red from it. Will definitely be going out for my Birthday for dinner and to see a comedy show- its all booked as a treat from my best friend. It was her birthday on Friday and I got her 20 red and yellow roses for £6 from one of those vans in a layby but when she asked me where they had come from I couldn't tell her the truth so I had to think quick and lie (a white lie), it's a hard life being a blagger!
On a downside I have discovered through the wonders of the internet that a good school friend has just died of a brain tumour and it has bought me back down to earth with a bump, I haven't seen him since the '80's but all the same.

I am sorry about your schoolfriend. That would really shake me up. Poor flower.

I am glad you enjoyed Hastings, and you have a new housemate and even better are going out for your birthday. Ever thought of changing your name to Lucky Jim??? Well done and good on you!

My spare room is empty, Simon left on Sunday. I managed to get his deposit back to him no issues, I had a bit more money in the bank then I anticipated (probably as I only gave Payplan £10). I have had to borrow £250 from the racist pensioner though to see me through the month as emergencies etc because even though I’ve filled the room and Pat was meant to move in on Sunday he has delayed by two weeks so its given me a shortfall, but as usual I am juggling everything around to manage.

Even though Pat hasn’t moved in yet I have already got him a new job fitting solar panels which he started on Monday as I have a friend who is desperate for staff- I know, 3 million unemployed and he still can’t recruit the right people and he has several good paying vacancies.

Whilst I am on the topic of vacancies things are going really well at the bank presently, so much so our dept is now recruiting externally for another 15 full time positions. In the recent past all new roles have only been advertised internally because of all the redundancies in other areas to allow those who are losing their roles to apply and maybe stay in the bank. I have a friend who I have known for 6 years and in all that time he’s never had a proper job for long, keeps getting made redundant or only getting temporary contracts and he is extremely qualified and a real top bloke- dependable. Presently he is delivering p/t for Tesco but I have managed to get him an interview and feel really confident that he will get one of the 15 roles. If I am being honest I feel really good inside that I have managed to potentially help a friend who would just fit in so well at work and I know he could add a lot of value to the work we do and the office environment.

Lovely day today, painted the window ledges and then went for a cup of coffee and to sit in the sunshine. Been listening to Nick Cave all day so I am surprised that I am in this good a mood…..

p.s. Bob Dylan is a genius- but you all knew that already. Jim.

Jim - glad to hear you are so positive. Brilliant news at work as well. My work environment is not too good at the moment (my job is safe) but plenty of others are facing redundancy - its horrible but I know it will settle soon. Fingers crossed for your mate. I too, know loads of people who are brilliant, dependable and well qualified and are stuck so its great you are able to help out.

My computer has busted!!!! and i miss you listening to Nick Cave. I like him. Am at work we have to work the first few days of the hols as the kids have missed too many days due to bank holidays and stuff. Kids are finishing off work and playing Nirvana to me as I look as if i am going to jump out of the window.

I agree with everyone it is fantastic that you are able to help a friend out. The job scene is awful. I just keep thinking there by the grace of god go I. I am ok but a few missed paycheques and i will be back to square one. Think our college is ok for another 6 months and then we shall see.

Weather is great. Hope you are enjoying it. Do you all remember what you did during the Charles and Diana Royal wedding in 1981 if you were around way back then? Times have changed ... (close enough to Bob Dylan maybe... maybe not...).
