Thanks everyone, I feel loads better today. I've emailed payplan and told them they are getting a tenner so that is now dealt with. There isn't really much else I can do and just wait for someone to enquire about the room. The maintenance can wait a month, I normally pay it late anyway! It will just be a very awkward April and northernlas I still just might go out for the day on my Birthday, if it gets desperate I can always borrow some money from the racist pensioner next door.
I need some money short term as I have agreed to go in the Euromillions syndicate at work which is £8 every 4 weeks, I don't normally gamble or play the lottery but I see it more as an insurance policy because if they win and I am not part of it I couldn't bear to live with myself so I am happy to pay £8 to insure against it happening. We have all had to sign a contract and put our names on a bank account and then set up standing orders to fund the account, I feel I've been suckered by the whole "it could be you" marketing campaign.
Another bummer this morning- I found a grey hair on my chest......0 -
Dude i have a few grey hairs. At least in your case you can claim wisdom. I is thick.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220

Another lurker coming out of the woodwork......
It is worth googling monday to friday lodgers, a few places come up that could be worth a look.
And I also recommend you celebrate your birthday in the way you originally planned. After all, a couple of days off the annual grind of debt busting is worth it's weight in gold and good for your sanity
I don't have hairs on my chest but the first grey one further down was a calamity! Now take my glasses off if I have to look down there so I can't see them :rotfl:

Jim,
You've just reminded me of a conversation I had with my late mum in the car (she wasn't late in any sense by the way when she was in the car). She said, with no prompting, 'Your pubic hairs are the last hairs to go grey'.
So maybe don't worry till then.
Lodger - I put posts up on spareroom.com, easyflatmate.com and gumtree. Bizarrely enough I got a highways man for a fortnight after Christmas - emergency telephone call at 3pm from his employer and he turned up at 7pm! ... and then I got a pylon man who is here till August, maybe November and is lovely. Don't go with anyone you're not happy with (Good advice your mother probably gave you!!!)

Thanks for your advice Butti, I have used spareroom.com, easyflatmate.com, gumtree and the local free paper. At first I just had it on Gumtree as this has always been the most successful in the past but yesterday morning I added it to all the others and today I have had a phone call from someone who sounds human and is coming by tomorrow, this could be the light at the end of the tunnel. Regardless I am celebrating my Birthday this week and I am starting tomorrow with a day out to Hastings to visit the battlefield and all the associated sites which I am really looking forward to as I have never been before.
I am looking forward to standing in a field on a hill and thinking about the events of the day in 1066 and how they have shaped ours lives today, these events are who we are this is our point in modern history when we as a nation came into being. Could be a good week.0 -
Do have a wonderful happy birthday. I still haven't made it to Hastings and it is not far away. There is so much to do in the UK I forget what is on our doorstep. You are taking me back to lessons I had in my grammar school aged 11 back in the days when lessons were not interactive and we merely wrote and read books and used our imagination but it worked. Harald Hardrada, the Battle of Stamford Bridge, William the Conqueror and the Bayeaux Tapestry and the Magna Carta - yup, education worked i still remember almost 30 years later, we have to go back sometimes to see where we came from and how far we have progressed. Have a fantastic day Mr Jim.
I hope housemate is nice, will pray it all works out.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Fingers crossed that potential lodger passes Human Prod Test, Jim and wise man[that's what comes of getting older ;-)] to be following those original b'day plans.
You might even be allowed a little sunshine if weather man is to be believed.
Okay...that was a mistake.
Have a freed-up meandering good for the soul week - it's overduly deserved.

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR THEOLOGY ?
Who was the 3rd man in history to walk on water?
* The 1st one was Jesus..
* The 2nd was the apostle, Peter.
* Then there was this guy…
