Just got back from Hospital again- wasn't a planned visit but I had a Hypo attack at work mid morning. I wasn't feeling great and all the colour drained from my face, my eyesight went blurred, then I had to sit down as I felt really faint. Another diabetic at work spotted this straight away and gave me some jelly babies then drove me to hospital as I couldn't get hold of anyone on the phone.
When I got there I spoke to the consultant who wrote my prescription on the phone in an office as everyone was in a meeting, she knew all about my history and has altered the amount of tablets I need to take. She asked what I had eaten and what I was planning on eating for the rest of the day and she was happy with the diet.
I am really shook up but glad that my friends at work spotted what was going on as I would have just sat there and waited for the nausea to pass which it may not have done. I may take the week off.

Take it easy! I am delighted there was another diabetic at work who spotted your hypo and gave you sweets or you could have went into a diabetic coma. You could have done with your Dads' Easter egg. If I take a bad hypo I feel crap for about 3 days after. Always carry your blood gucose monitor, extra test strips, spare batteries for your monitor, something sweet which will boost your blood glucose and your insulin and needles or your diabetic tablets. At least now you will know the symptoms for again.

I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you had a bad 'do' today Jim. It must have been scary and I'm glad to know there was someone watching out for you.
I expect you will soon get to know what to watch out for and that'll help you avoid hypos. Are you going to takethe rest of the week off?

I am feeling ok, a bit shaky this morning but I had 7 hours uninterrupted sleep last night, will take tomorrow off as well just to make sure. Have now stopped the injections and am just doing pills only. Blood sugar is right down so I suspect this will be the course of treatment for me and that it is type 2 diabetes.
Went for a short walk last night and felt fine and haven't eaten anything I shouldn't. Have just seen the first 2 episodes of the new series of Lost so have plenty to occupy myself with, like trying to work out what the hell is going on !

What was your blood glucose this morning when you felt shakey? Did they explain to you that exercise increases your blood glucose readings and then decreases them for up to 36 hours after you have finished the exercise? Did they explain that housework can decrease your blood glucose?

In my opinion it takes a while to get used to being a diabetic so give yourself a chance to adjust.

Blood sugar is 7.7 and hasn't been above 9 for 24 hours. Last Friday I was 18. Haven't eaten any refined carbs since Tuesday and feel ok. One bizarre side effect is I am no longer wearing my contact lenses as I don't need them- I can see fine without for the first time in 10 years, prev my eyes were -2.00/2.25. Today they are fine without any help, its like I am cured.

Hi Jim, good to hear you sunding better today and brilliant about your sight! I know next to nothing about diabetes (more shame me) but seem to remember it does tend to affect vision. I had no idea this could happenthough. Long may it continue!
(Very money-saving too - I bet you are mentally adding up what you spend on contacts and hoping to allocate it elsewhere! :) )

To save money I already buy daily's and use them as monthly's as they are exactly the same so my contacts cost me about £30 for 18 months- it doesn't get any mse than that !

Also I have just realised that I have lost 6kg since Christmas.
