Well you've certainly had an eventful day Jim! Sorry to hear about all the tests and that you have more to come (but may I add well done on putting up with all of that and still keeping not only your sense of humour but also good lungs and BP). I'm very glad though that they are getting treatment sorted and you are going to be able to take charge of your health again. I'm on permanent tablets myself but to me that means I can lead a normal life and not have to put up with the symptoms of my condition. Blood tests and monitoring are a price to pay but the plus side is when you stop feeling grotty and start feeling normal. Really hoping you get there soon
It's late and I'm not sure I'm putting this across right, so I hope you'll bear with me and take it in the spirit it's meant. Sorry to hear it's diabetes, but glad you are on the way to putting it in its place.Miggy

The needle in the wrist was for blood gas, it has to taken from oxygenated blood so only an artery will do. I have high Ketones in my urine and I have just done a blood test using a blood glucose monitor and that was reading 17.4 and flashing ketones. I have only got 3 glucose strips left as I have had to bin about 3 whilst trying to get blood- I just don't bleed when I use the lance. A friend is coming round tomorrow to show me the best way to draw blood for a sample, the sides of my fingers are like a pin cushion after just 4 tests.
But at last I am not thirsty and am looking forward to my first full nights sleep this year.
I cant wait to wear my hair, jewellery, dress, shoes to the Christmas do !0 -

Any time I got blood taken from there it was to test for ketoacidosis. You'll look pretty at your Christmas do perhaps if you have a leaving do next week you could wear them then! :rotfl:
Hope you have a good nights sleep tonight.0 -

Had a brilliant nights sleep last night, midnight to 7.30 without getting up,probably the first time in 12 months I've slept that much. Feel really good today although my wrist is still aching a bit. George, I know what you mean about changing gear driving back from the hospital, I have a bruise on mine and a dull throb.
I have found that I am going to the toilet a lot less,I feel like a normal human again and not having to plan toilet stops if I am going out- 1 before I go, again at the station, on the train and at the office on arrival- all within 1 hour.0 -
Just popped into check up on you
.
So glad you went to the docs. You must have been really worried but now it's all being dealt with which although still worrying is much better. You must be relieved (pun optional) to be getting a proper nights sleep. Sounds like a good decision to give up the delivery job and great news on your mortgage repayments. You could devote the 12 hrs you were spending on delivering on loads of different things and definitely earn more per week. Loads of opportunities as well as your not-so-great new adventures with needles - it's never dull with you Jim :cool:0 -

I've noticed this !0 -
When I get blood taken from my wrist it is usually sore for 5 to 6 days. BTW in case you didn't know you are supposed to inform the DVA and your car insurers that you are diabetic. Did you get another good nights sleep last night?0

I always get mine free but I am not sure if you are supposed to get painkillers free. My prescriptions are always free though.0
