Icesave paper application received without 2nd email

Hi folks.
Slightly concerning - I have just received a paper application for my FSCS payment without having received a 2nd email (I got the first). It tells me that I have not elected to claim using the electronic method altho' I have never said so nor been given the opportunity - presumably the purpose of the second email. It does give me the opportunity to contact FSCS and ask about electronic transfer. However, this seems to be an unnecessary and time-consuming further step. As it happens, I have a small(ish) amount in a fixed term 3yr bond at 7% with a long time to run and had made up my mind to leave it in place with the FSCS and take the full interest at maturity. This would, I assume, mean making a paper application anyway which I understand will take about six weeks to process a cheque in due course, instead of the relatively quick BACS repayment. I was resigned to this as I'm sure I'm not going to get 7% in the next three years. But what if I needed the money quickly? Did the FSCS assume that, since I had a long-term bond I wouldn't be seeking for a quick return? I wonder what happened to my second email - or what will happen to my postal application? I expect it'll be fine, but I've photocopied my filled-in form and sent it recorded delivery in the pre-paid envelope, so that I have a complete record of everything just in case. So - a warning to people who have not yet received their second email and nothing in the post - please contact the FSCS, they may have got it wrong. Good luck everyone.

The 'up to six weeks' part is to process the form that you send them back. If you have received and returned the form to them then that six weeks should run concurrently with the 2+ years that your bond is still running, so you should receive payment fairly soon after the bond matures.
(There has been some debate over whether they would be sending out the forms right now or at the end of the term for each account, but this point seems redundant in your case).
The FSCS told me that there would be a field on the form to select your method of payment (e.g. cheque-in-the-post or BACs payment to an account you specify on the form). Is that true? Is there a space on the form to specify how you want it paid?
You seem to be the first person to have received a paper form. Do you think you would be able to make a scan (/ ?in focus photo) and upload it to somewhere like http://www.!!!!!!/ so others can have a squint at it?

I have had the same letter today, saying that because I had not responded to emails that they have sent a paper copy.
Thing is, I recieved thier original email announcing the process on teh 4th Novemeber, and nothing since. If I log on and attempt to initiate the proccess is says "you have not been invited to apply"
Both myself and my wife have the same issues - and getting through to teh FSCS to try and sort thjis out is a joke - calls just go dead when you eventually get it to route.
We dont even have a complicated claim - so I dont think its anything to do with that.

So people are getting letters even though the "initiate" button doesnt work, what a bloody joke this is turning into..0

Silly question but is this not a case of people without linked bank accounts who can't use the electronic method anyway?0

Hi folks,
I'll try to upload a copy soon when I have the time. And I did have a linked account so I wasn't filtered out that way. Incidentally, the Post Office has no record of the FSCS being at the prepaid delivery envelope address at Warehouse 3, Faverdale Industrial Estate, Darlington, DL3 0QN for recorded delivery. I've checked with customer help-line who say they've too many addresses to check on the phone. but have sent the problem up to head office. I'm also emailing the FSCS - I guess they've taken extra space to deal with the expected mail rush and not yet told the Post office to update their database. I don't believe it's a scam as it would be an incredibly sophistcated operation to reproduce the documents sent to me (I do have some experience in his field). Finally, on the paper application there is no provision for electing electronic or cheque repayment, merely whether you want payment now or on maturity. I guess by the time my bond matures they will be able to send out a cheque promptly as many others do and the six week wait will have significantly reduced by then. Let me know what y'all think.0 -
You don't reckon try calling the FSCS to ask them why you have been excluded from the electronic process?Temrael

Hi folks, I've posted a separate thread for sight of FSCS paper application for anyone interested, I did contact FSCS and they had no immediate explanation for my exclusion from the electronic process - they're getting back to me. Hmm!
