Icesave paper application received without 2nd email

  • I received the paper claim form today, also after having not received the 2nd email. This is for a cash ISA.

In my case I think I enetered my password wrong too many times in a state of panic a couple of days before Icesave went kaput.

Something like this might explain some of the other cases.

The FSCS told me that there would be a field on the form to select your method of payment (e.g. cheque-in-the-post or BACs payment to an account you specify on the form). Is that true? Is there a space on the form to specify how you want it paid?

Just phoned them again to check and apparently there is no choice. If you want to stay on til the end of your fixed term, your payment options are cheque, cheque, cheque or cheque.

Well I have just received the letter without having the 2nd email. I have an icesave ISA, never had problems logging in, have a linked account as far as I know.

No email, no letter, no working initiate button.
  • Hi I also received a paper application instead of the 2nd email. I called FSCS and I was told that their server was having problems so they had resorted to send mail to some people. I also wonder whether it was because I had 2 separate accounts. The FSCS gave me no option but to go along the paper route!

That's shocking! Sorry to hear that. It'll be me tomorrow, I bet.

OK: After speaking to the FSCS & the Newcy BS (who are handling the accounts side using staff that handled the ICESAVE accounts) I'm informed that the letter saying that you basically couldn't be bothered to apply for compensation is '...not worded very well'; and '..in fact these letters are to people who hadn't got linked accounts set up with Icesave.' I'd have argued the toss that I had, but when the Landsbanki situation looked pear shaped, I do remember trying to get my money out on 5/6th October, only to receive the message 'no linked account'. And the nice ex Icesave Newcy lady said no changes have been made to accounts detail since the 7th Oct.
She confirmed that when you opened your Icesave ac you did not require a linked account to set up & pay into either easy access or FTBs. Just to take money out. Could be true as far as I'm concerned as I never made a withdrawal.

I had been in a bit of a dilemma whether to go electronic... So... happily, no dilemma now: It's paper and leave my FTB til mid Jan for maturity.

Fortunately I've not got much£s in my easy access losing interest.

However that may not be the same for others who may find thinking they were so close to getting their compensation only to find they are in the mechanical process quite frustrating. I sincerely sympathise.

And before you ask me, she did say there is no way to add a linked account now.

Good chance many of those waiting for 2nd es are in the paper round....

Me too, I had two linked accounts and thought this would screw me up but I just selected the applicable one and went ahead. I didnt actually seem to get a confirmation tho! Also the printed reciept is void of any details apart from account number and BALANCE, not how much I claimed or where I requested it sent too.. Hmmmm..

Silly question but is this not a case of people without linked bank accounts who can't use the electronic method anyway?
Less like a silly question, more like an inspired guess..
