  • Hi soulsaver,
Yes, what you say is probably the case, although slightly academic now as I intended to leave the bond to mature in any case. However, I have an absolutely identical direct debit mandate with one of my utility companies. I recently (surprisingly) found myself to have a substantial credit which I asked to be returned. They happily did this by using my existing mandate to expedite fast repayment to my nominated account. This seems to me to be a linkage which the FSCS could easily have used. My grouse is that nobody ever made it clear that another linkage would be required to return funds to me. What other details could I have given, I wonder, given that it is my only extant current account? I suppose this is complicated by my having initially paid a lump sum with interest on maturity, not expecting returns before then. I would have been massively irritated to find myself in some of the situations outlined above where the FSCS seems to have assumed an awful lot, and badly inderestimated the complications involved. When, after the first week they claimed to have compensated 10,000 people when it was clear that some 200,000 people were involved, the end of November was never a realistic target. Doubtless a learning curve for them, too, and we have to be grateful that they had any system of any kind in place given the rapidity and extent of the collapse. Let's hope our tribulations have enabled them to refine their procedures - who would want to have a pension on Woolworth's right now?

  • Went to the darlington warehouse address on the FSCS envelope today, it appears to be operated by capita.

Personally handed in my wifes claim form, so lets see how long it takes to get a cheque, they had already had 2000 returned forms this morning.

I too received a first email but no second and have today received a paper form (I have an ISA) although I have a linked account and have not experienced problems with my password. A friend had an account with ICESAVE, received both emails and payment within days. I understand that with the paper route there is a six week wait.
  • I received first email 5/11/08 1.09, but have never received a second email. Yesterday a letter & form arrived from FSCS which I have completed and returned. I wondered if this was because I don't ever remember setting up a linked account when I originally opened my ISA?
