Comet and faulty dishwasher help please

The chap just arrived this morning, he's having huge family problems, I'm a very reaonable person, I know things happen but why he just didn't say that in the first place I don't know.
It's the motherboard that's completely packed up so I have to wait till the 5th Dec to have it repaired. Don't get me wrong I'm glad it's going to be repaired but the thing will have been out of action for 3 weeks by then and I've only had 4 weeks use from it.
I have a question, Can I ask someone from Comet to come and do my washing up for a fortnight? - that really was a joke.
My question is this - if you buy something and it keeps having the exact same fault over and over again do you have any recourse over this. It's fine when items are still under the years guarantee and your not paying but what about after that. In the end you get fed up of paying out more for repairs than it cost in the first place so you just buy another one.
I just wondered for future reference - I know what my luck's like, can you argue that the appliance wasn't up to the job in the first place? Can you argue that the repair hasn't been carried out properly?0 -
I'd be writing all of this down. if it goes again, look for a refund. I don't think that a repair over 3 weeks is acceptable after only 4 weeks useRemember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

this happened to me with comet and a new washing machine, after a couple of months it developed a fault, they came and sorted it , ok fine i accepted it, a few weeks later same fault, tried to get them to replace it but no chance , fixed it again , a few weeks after that, i put on a boil wash and the powder drawer actually melted. this is were the fun began they sent an engineer to take a look, cant remember what the exact faultwas but he needed to order part and a new drawer, told him i wasnt happy and was advised to take it up with comet . they wouldnt budge, and to be honest at this point neither would i, when engineer called back to sort machine i refused to let him do it , i called consumer advice and trading standards for advice spoke to comet again and told them i will not accept any more repairs on machine , they were adamant i wasnt getting a replacement, so had no choice but to rearrange another appointment for engineer to call ,next day comet called to say they would replace machine. dont know why they had change of heart but dont just roll over ,phone them constantly and pester them if you have too.0

Under the "Sale of goods act 1979" you are entitled to a repair/replacement should the item develop a fault within a reasonable time frame. This is outside of the warranty.
Speak to somebody at "Consumer Direct" and they will be able to assist you:
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/making-complaint/template-letters/sale_of_goods_act/
You can also use their template letters.
We bought a £900 fridge freezer from MFI and after 6 months it developed a fault where it freezes the fridge compartment. It was fixed under warranty but this happened again after 2 years. MFI were adamant it was not there problem anymore. We started legal proceedings and after a while they gave us a full refund.
Dont let the store where you purchased it fob you off and tell you to go to the manufacturer, it is the store that have to deal with it.0 -

My response was to the above by the way :rolleyes:0 -
The 28 days is just something they write on their T&C's, it means absolutely nothing. Just remind them that you are not asking for a replacement/refund under their T&C's you are asking for it under the Sale of Goods Act, and that on their T&C's it clearly states "this does not effect your statutory rights".
Personally, if the DW had failed on me after such a short time I would be rejecting the goods and seeking a replacement not repair. I did this with a washing machine (from sainsbury's not Comet), started showing a fault code after 6 weeks, I allowed the engineer to come and verify the fault but would not allow them to fix it (would have been a new PCB) then rejected the goods as not fit for purpose and had a new one delivered.
Before Dave and his Posse start the reason I rejected is that PCB's seldom fail without there being some other cause, so there is a likely hood that a new one would fail again. I was not prepared to take that hassle with a new £400 machine.0 -

What does that even mean? Even simple kettles can have irreparable faults without having been misused.
As for things costing more in this country, there are a lot of reasons for that, and it depends on the product and the firm. Blaming the consumer for shoddy items that are not fit for purpose is outright nonsense. If things having to be replaced is part of the problem, then this can be avoided by manufacturers making things, and suppliers selling things, that are of merchandable quality in the first place. Now THAT is hardly a black art, is it?
PS I thanked you by mistake. Second time I've made that error in 24 hours. Maybe I should go into manufacturing of consumer items...0 -
Funny they dont use that slogan for advertising the product in the store.Brooker_Dave wrote: »It's only a dishwasher.

HOw many people frequently go into a store and ask the assistant "Can I have a recently repaired dishwasher please,....or can you get me one that's likely to need repairing by next week.":A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
