  • Can't believe nobody has suggested a beer towel patch - old skool rock ;)
  • I saw this in the Guardian a little while back: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/may/18/how-to-make-slippers-from-jeans

I'm planning to use it on a pair of jeans I wore to death and adored but which developed a dubious hole high up the inner thigh. I've also made a skirt out of a pair of old jeans before.

Someone with waaaaaay more sewing skills than me made their old jeans into a superb handbag!! She used the waist as the top of the bag, the bottom and front pockets as the bag and sewed just under there to make the bottom of the bag. She then used excess from the legs, doubled over, to make straps :D
Very clever if you ask me :rotfl:

  • i've made handbags out of jeans before by cutting the legs off and sewing them up. I then added a beaded belt through the belt loops which livened it up a bit!

I have several pairs of outgrown boys jeans (age 4-8 so not huge) to throw out/recycle. The hems on most are pretty frayed & they are quite faded, so no point ebaying them or anything.

I'm in the mood for another sewing project and these are sitting in a pile on top of the dresser crying out to be recycled into something - but what?

I've had a quick google, but most of the free projects/patterns I've seen online are for converting adult jeans.

    Anyone got any good ideas?

As an aside is anyone else converting uniform school trousers into shorts to make the garments "last" the summer term this easter? It's a neat old style frugal tip for primary aged kids.

How about filing with sand/rice and sewing up both ends to make a cheap draft excluder? :)

You could patchwork them together to make a beanbag chair. Would be quite tough! Or a big floor cushion for a playroom.

How about a Jeans Bag or Booty Bag?
Mooloo makes them by cutting off the legs at the bum, sewing them up then adding handles. Actually very effective.

I once freecycled a bunch of jeans to a lady making a rag rug. I think she needed a LOT of jeans, and must have had lots of patience to cut them all up, but no doubt the resulting rug would last ages!

If filled with rice, you could make a hot bag, like the expensive wheat ones you can buy. Just use the jeans leg to make the inner, rice-filled bag and sew it up firmly, then use something pretty and soft (old baby blanket perhaps?) to make a washable cover. Microwave the inner bag for a couple of minutes, check it isn't too hot, pop it into the outer cover and cuddle!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
