Hiya,
Today I went to put my fave jeans on, only to find they have a rapidly growing hole right on the backside!!!
Usually I would cut them off into shorts when they get too natty, but seeing as the whole is in a more prominent aream I don't have that choice!
So OS gurus - what can I do with them? Dont want to just chuck them, and I don't think a patch would work in this area either!!!
Thanks!

Cut into portions and then re-join to make a patchwork type bag, small handbag up to large shopper. Or you could undo the crotch seam, rejoin so it's flat front and back then patch the hole and wear as a skirt?? you must've seen skirts made like this, why not make your own. You can customise how you want and decide on the perfect length for you.
If you aren't any good sewing, ask a friend or relative who is to help you. Good luck, I hope your jeans can find a new lease of life. An old pair of great jeans are like a good old friend. You don't want to lose em.Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

Back in the 70's we used to put patches everywhere!
You could cut the legs off and stitch up the bottom, then using the legs make a long strap and you have a very useful bag. If you like quilting then maybe a patchwork quilt! You could use the best material to make pot holders. There is a site somewhere on the net with loads of ideas re old jeans. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Patches can work if you do them one of two ways, either go really loud and obvious (sew a big silver star on there for example!), or do it the way people mended 'in the war' and aim for a reasonably invisible patch. We don't tend to mend much these days and its a skill well worth developing. Done well, you'll hardly notice it.0

I remember at school a girl making a cushion out of the upper part of a pair of jeans. Stitch the wasteband closed and then cut off the legs. Stuff and stitch legs closed. I also remember that the needlework teacher made her unpick it and remove some of the stuffing from the crotch region as it was deemed too realistic before she would mark it. So a little tip there if you want to economize on kapok make it a ladeeeee.;)
Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention. Take the jeans off before atempting to cutomize into a cushion.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
If the inside leg is long enough you can make a draught excluder for the bottom of a door- just stuff it with amything (eg old underwear and socks, used carrier bags), sew up both ends and there you have it!Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0

Once made a skirt which from waist to hips was the top of a pair of jeans, then got some material - hemmed it then gathered at top to form a few pleats then sewed top of material to underside of the jeans - is this making sense???
