OS Daily Thread - Saturday 22nd November

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sat 22nd of November. It is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone,

Haven't been up long but feel shattered. Tristan is due online in a few mins so thought I would post before he gets here. My other half got home about 20 mins ago and is now tucked up in bed, probably asleep. He is still full of cold the poor thing.

jackie, you made me laugh so much as I could imagine you sailing in - boobs arriving 2 mins before you do! Really glad you had such a good day, you deserve it!
Rage- oh you poor thing, I would have been terrified
Soapy - hope the baby comes soon and you don't have to wait too long to meet him/her

Will be making Oxtail casserole this weekend, and looking forward to it. Going to try it in the slow cooker which I have not used for it yet, but once the meat is browned I think it's just a case of chucking everything else in and leaving it... :rotfl:

We have to sort out this room this weekend too so my OH can use the other desk in here which is piled high with books and papers and surrounded by boxes. Now he can't use the spare room, he needs somewhere to set up his laptop and do his paperwork. Poor guy keeps making mock sad faces and talking about being homeless now he doesn't have his 'play room/office'.
smileyhug.gifto all who want them today and getwell.gifto all those not feeling well.

Good morning Diva; please send (((hugs))) to Tristan.

Hester - Happy Birthday for yesterday!

Jackie - congratulations on your new figure!

(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin and all in need.

RageinEden - I've just caught up with yesterday's thread - what a horrible experience for you; you were very brave.

Welcome to all the newbies on here!

Well, yesterday went by in a blur - work was SO busy it reminded me why I left it over two years ago! I have two more days to do next week, Thurs and Fri, and then I'm covering again for emergencies just after Christmas; the other two nurses are Polish and will be going home for Christmas. I've sort of enjoyed being back there but it is such a long day - I have to leave the house at 7.30, pop back for a very quick lunch, and then don't get home again until 6pm. The amount of walking involved is incredible and my feet were burning last night! I also just about managed to stay awake long enough to watch Have I Got News for You (in which Frank Skinner replaced Paul Merton who was unwell - I've never liked Frank Skinner but he was brilliant last night and I saw him in a new light); I watched most of Gavin and Stacey, too, which was great. I have no idea why I woke up so early this morning because I was so tired when I got into bed last night.

Oh, dear, I've gone right off topic. Here's my OS - last night's dinner was leftover stew which I reheated in the Remoska; it was delicious with HM bread to dunk. Pudding was just a piece of cake. Dinner tonight will be Spaghetti Carbonara and pudding will be whatever I make today but I shall be keeping it simple. We are visiting DS2 and DIL this afternoon so I'm looking forward to that, but I must try and get the ironing done before we go. DH is working tomorrow so I hope to get a lot more present wrapping done then, too.

It's not as cold this morning as they said it would be but then we don't get the worst of it here in the South. I hope it's not too bad further up country, although the forecast doesn't look too good.

Well, I've mioliered so I'd better go and have my shower and then I may do some knitting until it gets light.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning.

I got my computer fixed. So everything is good again. My flash player is working and all the cr4p is gone. :D .

I found out that Time ripped me off when I bought this computer many years ago, so I am glad they went out of buisness. The 'reload' CD for example was not a copy of Windows and all the programs, but a code key that unlocked some of the hard drive where the programs were stored. So if the hard drive had gone bad, then that would have been it. There are some lie tellers out there! Most now sell mobile phones!

Cold and windy here, but snow is unlikely.

Grievance of the day must be the Daily Express that had a headline saying that FOOD and FUEL DOWN. Yeah right. Petrol may be a few pence cheaper, but diesel isn't and food in ASDA last night seemed horribley priced. Everything seemed to have increased a lot. Tuna for example was up by 50%. Scarey... NO offers on turkeys yet either.

Work today. I had some good sucesses this week, so on a roll.

    Cheers folks

    Morning all,
I'm decorating my log suppliers bathroom today, we struck a deal. I decorate for him and he supplies a full load of logs, I think I have a good deal as the logs normally cost £75. I sorted my tools/brushes etc. out and loaded my car last night so I can get an early start today.

BM and WM on and veg soup in the SC. Must make a quiche, sos rolls, chick drumsticks, cauli/brocc cheese to take to DH's family get together tomorrow. I'm cooking for 10 so will do a buffet lunch, hopefully we will be home for dinner. His Mum died not long ago and there's still stuff in her house to sort, his brother still lives there but hasn't a clue when it comes to putting rubish in the bin.

We will take Xmas pressies over so that will save on postage.

(((((((((((Hugs to so many in need)))))))))))))))

1 more coffee then I'll start wrapping the pressies.

Lovely evening last night, all 4 of my kids plus partners & grand kids, lots of food all yummy. Hubby came along to, he wasn't sure as he's not feeling too good at the moment, but he made the effort to please me.
I got some lovely pressies too, smellies, chocolates etc.
I've deen awake for a while, I keep waking up with my teeth aching but am ok once I wake up, it's because I'm clenching my teeth when I'm asleep, a sure sign I'm stressed.
Still no sign of hubby's wages & BIL2 is now annoyed with hubby for chasing him for them, it's only £200 & he can't see why we are making such a fuss about it, fuss, I'll show him what fuss is if I get to speak to him!! The lodger leaves on Sunday, monthly payment for electricity has jumped from £30 to £72, ouch, I need to belt tighten again, it will meet in the middle soon.
The cakes went down very well at work yesterday & there are a few left for Monday.
    Well I've waffled long enough.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all,

    Happy Birthday Kiwichick :)

Hester, glad you had a good day. Your BIL's attitude makes me so cross, how dare someone expect NOT to get hassled for not paying wages?! I'd be really snotty with him now... Hope you get a new lodger soon too.
Kathy, not too cold here either, we often miss a lot of the weather. Glad you are enjoying work & am sure you will enjoy it even more when you stop again!
Diva, what with my flu I haven't had a chance to get out & get some oxtail so haven't been able to try it yet, but it sounds like just the thing for a chily weekend.
Rage, how horrible for you, but well done for being so calm!! Mind you, think if I'd have been that composed, I'd have started running down the garden after them, chucking saucepans or something heavy!!!
Jackie, I too was smiling at the thought of you sailing along in a very stately manner :)
Betheebee, you are such a whirlwind of energy all the time, I am in awe of you.

Think I might get the BM on this morning for granary dough, and might try hanging some sheets outside to see if they'll dry. Also fancying peach upside-down cake for pudding later, but suppose I'd better come up with a dinner first!

Have a good day all, ((((hugs))) for all those needing. Hope those all MIA still are ok.

    Morning everyone.
I love the weekend when I don't have to set the alarm! I still usually waken fairly early but no quite as early as I'm 'made to'.
Snow here :T - clapping because I don't have to drive in it. Mind you, there isn't very much. There was a snow shower with huge flakes though and our younger dog came bounding in with a snow on her back, looking wild eyed. She loves snow. The older more sensible one is not so keen! Both are good at lying down and being towelled dry though.
Well, heating on becuase it is blimmin' freezing.
Plans today include more hat knitting and some soup making. Might also bake the Christmas cake as that will heat up the kitchen nicely. I'm doing a Caribbean cake again so the fruit has been soaking in alcohol for weeks.
I'm also going to do some more reading - have a stack of books I need to get through but I also know I'm going to enjoy them so don't want to rush them, if that makes sense.
Snow on again so am off to make another cup of tea and have a read through the site.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
