this does happen now and again with MBAM updates, happened to me two or three times (and yesterday, as it happens). Usually, closing the program down, then re-opening allows it to update, or as RS said above, change the mirror site to download from.

Have you tried reinstalling it? or you could download the updates manually http://www.gt500.org/malwarebytes/database.jsp

Re-installed but same result. Have also now run superantispyware scan which found 21 items. Have now rebooted but still no access for malawarebytes.

Can't be sure but I think I noticed it update when I first rebooted earlier but when I click on updates it is never allowed access, it is not an occasional thing this is why I was concerned that perhaps something I may have done has excluded or some virus or other was denying access to protect itself.

  • Hi there,

    Just reading through your post.

What is your virtual memory set to is it system set?

To find/change the value follow the steps below.
    1. Right click on "My Computer" (Same as double clicking the system icon in the control panel).

    2. Click the "Advanced" tab.

    3. Under the "Performance" section click "Settings".

    4. Click the "Advanced" tab.

    5. Under the "Virtual Memory" section click "Change"(You can also see what is it set to here before clicking the "Change" button).

    6. Click "System managed size" and then click "Set" then click "OK" and close the remaining tabs with "OK".

I have experienced problems in the past on my customers machines with this setting.

I recommend you change it to system set.

I would also recommend using "msconfig" to remove any unwanted startup entries.
To do this follow the steps below.
    1. Click Start.

    2. Click Run.

    3. Type "msconfig" with out the speech marks.

    4. Click "OK".

    5. Click the "Services" tab and then tick "Hide all Microsoft Services". Here you will see many services listed with a tick box next to each one, each element that is ticked will start up in the background on computer start up. The good thing about using this tool is that if you stop something that you shouldnt have, you can simply go back into msconfig and put a tick next to it again. IT WILL NOT REMOVE THE ITEM.

    6. Once you have cleaned up the Services, click the "Startup" tab and do exactly the same as what you did with the services.

    7. Once you have finished click "Apply" and then click "OK", you will be prompt to restart the computer for the effects to take place.

    8. On next logon it will prompt you saying System Configuration, simply tick the box and click "OK" to stop this from coming up on each boot.
