    Again try this please:

Combofix hopefully it will sort you out it is what us PC engineers use and charge £££ per hour for :D

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

When you download it right click it and change the name of the file from combo fix to ysgdyagydgysdy or some random name as the viruses look for combofix as a threat.

then run it and follow the instructions. Hopefully that will clear it

Have run combo is do you need to see the log? Didn't manage to change name before it ran though does this matter? It does seem to be responding a lot sharper now.

Change the name and run it again and see how it goes.

It WILL get rid of many of the nasties.

PS you have NOT got system restore on have you? If so turn it OFF and run it then turn it back on when you have rebooted.

Ok again risking looking extremely dumb here, I cannot locate it on my system to run again. LOL

System restore was on but have now disabled.

Located combofix and changed name but now it is asking me what program to launch in?

Firefox still crashing within minutes of opening up tabs.

    CPU still running at 100%

In case it matters I am trying to run a total of at least six game screens, preferably 3 each in fox and ie, plus one tabbed browser page in each, am I perhaps just expecting too much of my pc?

ben - you're still going to need to do a disk cleanup and defrag (my computer, right-click disk drive, prpoerties, disk claenup is there in front of you, then tools tab and defrag.....might be an idea to do this whilst waiting for further advice on the above...it may take some time, especially if you've never done it before.

but before you start, check task manager again to see what processes are eating your cpu.......after the machine has fully booted up.
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I agree with Gunjack ~ find out whats using all your cpu

Also, what speed cpu do you have, how much ram and what size hard drive? (And how much is left on it?)

Already did a clean up and defrag, I'll do another now, also I have a total of 35 processes running in task manager. If I view screens tiled then firefox or ie are the ones topping the cpu consumption the only other high column is page faults firefox currently showing 868k.

    I have a p4 3ghz processor with 4gb ram and 160 gb hard drive with 138g unused.

    Goto firefoxes ADDONS
Disable them all to try to see if it effects the cpu usage

    Same with IE.

I dont know what you mean by 'page faults'?? Can you explain that please?

I have an item "page faults" listed in task manager,I think I have disabled ad ons now. CPU seems to permanently flatline at 100% when browser open, disk clean offered a measly 3K to save.
