Hi OBNW!!
Lol, no my ex (who is my boss for those of you not in the know) is on holiday so I am just carrying on at my usual productive rate.
There is always more to do than hours in the day though, hence not much opportunity for skiving (although I do seem to do better than you!!)
Thanks for the head-ups on Crimbo... was trying not to think about it. I have sold a few bits on ebay, but I will need to formulate a plan for the 'festive period'.
Glad to have you back OBNW!!start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225

Well, last night I got home from work (late as doing OT) and looked through the post. There was an envelope there that I didn't recognise and to be honest didn't really like the look of!!
Anyway, breathed in and opened the letter, catching a glimpse of a cheque. "Strange" I thought as I haven't written a cheque for yonks and wasn't expecting to receive one. Attached to the cheque was a letter. Which I read...
Anyway, to cut a long story short, it was a cheque from my step-dad for £1000. He had been notified that a life insurance policy he took out in 1972 had matured and there was a little over £3000 in it. He decided to split the £3000 equally between myself and my 2 step-brothers and keep the odd for him and my mum to go out to have a nice meal with. It turns out he took the policy out, paid no more than £10 a month into it for no more than 3.5 years and then forgot all about it!! (Not very MSE, but hey!!) Apparently my mum and step-dad have more than enough money and just don't want this extra! (how nice does that sound? It sounds even better to me as when I was young my step-dad went BR due to a failed business venture!)
So I am off to the bank at lunch and then I need to decide what to do with it. A couple of years ago, I would have walked from the bank to the travel agent and booked a holiday.... now I am thinking that it can clear my HSBC OD and the little bit on my C/C from holiday. I can then see what I should do with the rest - it is not going to be frittered away!
So, I am one very lucky girl and I an eternally grateful to my step-dad! He is an :A!!
Hope you all have a good day.
Nats x
(sorry if this post is a bit YAY, but good things like this very rarely happen to me)

Wow how brilliant!!! What do you think your step dad would like you to do with the money? Would he prefer to see you getting more out of debt, or allowing yourself a little treat!! I try my hardest to be MSE with money, but when it comes to a gift then I always try and spend the way the person who gave it would like me tooDebt Free since 2012Current Savings £1,400Current Mortgage £143,398.270

Hmmm - in the letter it said it was for us to spend however we liked. Neither he nor my mum are totally aware of my debt situation, although they probably have more than an idea (I have let on about little bits like trying to reclaim a couple of grand in bank charges!) Due to their past finance dire-straits, I think they would rather see it go toward reducing my debt. I will however ensure that OH and I get a nice meal out of it!! I cannot justify more than that! lol, funny how times change!!start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
