looks like they are sorting themselves out, I wonder how many kids have had to leave education because of the mix up though. Sad really I know where my son goes to college some pupils had to leave.0

Well after waiting another month i rang EMA helplines again yesterday. My daughter still hasn't received any payments from september. She has now left collage but is still owed money. The young man i spoke to took her details and said the claim had been archived. I am so mad as now he has said we have to re apply. I did give him the reference number from her previous EMA claim but that wasn't enough. I have been very patient and been ringing regular about every month. I have been polite but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. She is the only one out of her friends who is yet to recieve her payments. Lets hope it will be sorted out now. If there is anyone else who still hasn't recieved payment i would suggest you ring up again as your claim might have been archived as well. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0

I would ring back and ask to speak to a manager. You may have been fobbed off.0 -

Well my daughter has finally had her EMA money paid in. Only taken about 7 months. But we are very grateful that it has at last been paid. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0

My daughter left college at the end of january as she couldn't afford to go any more as her EMA wasn't paid.
She did have a job to go to.Luckily for her a job oppurtunity came up so she jumped at the chance. She now works at the Brittania buiding society so maybe they did her a favour in not paying her.
So glad your daughter got her payments sorted out. I think there should have been some compensation as so many people have had to wait too long for their money.
Lets hope it is sorted out and future students get their EMA with no problems. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0 -
Cannot stand this EMA lark.
Far too many people get paid who shouldn't be. The criteria needs tightened up BIG time.0 -

It is meant to be that more children stay on in full time education. My daughter would have stayed on with or without EMA but it means that I don`t have to pay bus fares etc. My first daughter got it when it was £10 a week. She had several part time jobs to provide for things she needed. My daughter who recently received it has a chronic illness and wouldn`t be able to cope with multiple jobs and doing A levels.0 -

I agree the money is to encourage teenagers to stay on to get better grades.
My daughter stayed on at school for 2 years and recieved EMA. This was an added bonus as she would have stayed on anyway. She got 4 grade A A Levels at the end of 6th form.
She then went onto do a college course. The course was alot further away and she would have used the money for bus fayers and books e.c.t that she needed.Unfortunately as she wasn't paid it until a few days ago that wasn't to be.
I think it is a good incentive for the teenagers to stay on into further education. Far better them get up to £30.00 a week and they are doing something constructive than staying at home with no job. That doesn't do anyone any good.
In a perfect world we would all be able to leave school at 16 and find a job that we want to do and be paid for it. Life isn't like that unfortunately.
My daughter also had different part time jobs even though they were low paid ones.
Spacerider I for one am grateful that your daughter is able to carry on with her studies and not have to worry about getting a job as well. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0
