My lovely husband who is usually so patient has lost his temper with EMA and after several more phone calls they have promised my daughter £200 but guess what they've paid in £20
Again this lunchtime while Mr P was home for lunch he phoned them and again we've been told it's going through the system and £200 will go into her bank either next week or the new year" so that covers 'em for another week or so. Honestly this is driving me crazy and my daughter pecking my head about it isn't helping either, anyone would think it was my fault  Our daughter already isn't impressed that "she only gets £20 per week 'cause we earned £8 over the limit for £30 per week". Keep telling her many of our friends their children get no EMA at all, kids !!!

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0 -

My son applied in august and has received nothing except our tax credit award notice back! He has rang many times and has been told the same thing each time."to give it another 2 weeks"! Its a mess.“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0

I'm in a very similar boat with ALG (Adult Learning Grant - basically EMA for 19+ learners, and administered by the same bodies).
I must admit, I wasn't aware the cowboys had lost the contract - only right, and I'm hoping that Capita can get this sorted - don't fancy their job much right now!
Still, though, I'm mighty unimpressed seeing as I sent my app. in September. Have I had any cash? Have I hell.
The only thing I've had back off them was that the form needed to be stamped by my bank (condescendingly underlined 3 times) - to which i called them and then sent the form back with the note added to - saying "it is stamped by the BANK - and signed by the MANAGER so not too sure what else I'm expected to do?!"
TBH, the cynic in me suspects its all a play for time... I'll keep calling - and who knows, the backdated payment might reach me before I leave college and go to uni... :-|On the up

i think they will back date it, i have been told they will back date mine to september
but that may be because it was there fault, they lost my contract...im not sure
although im pretty sure they back date it anyway aslong as the tutor says they have been there all the time and handed in all coursework. Either way get it applied for asap!0 -
The rule is meant to be that the app has been in within a month of starting the course - then even if (sorry, when!) they mess up and take forever, they will backdate it provided you've attended and whatnot...
If anyone's left it super-late to apply, then they'll pay from that point on, but they wont backdate to before you applied - which in fairness I'd say was understandable...On the up

When Capita took over they extended the application deadline to the end of October as they had taken over such a mess.
There is still a backlog of blackhole applications from August and early September that are floating round in cyberspace
I am surprised at Student Services saying it is nothing to do with themThey are responsible for authorising payments but that is where the responsibility ends - they cannot do much about none payment by Capita apart from ringing and trying to find out where it has gone. They will need a bank statement to prove to Capita that they have had sight of it and even then they are not always believed.
We do feel for the kids and families who are struggling through this period but please be assured we feel just as helpless.Mags - who loves shopping0 -
