If you put £45k in a 2yr bond that should cover the interest up to 50k in a 2yr bond if they go bust. Otherwise put in 50k with monthly interest to your linked bank account but thats 5.85% (still not bad and you get the regular interest).

I am about to apply for the Kent bond.
Help! Is it better to go for the yearly interest and risk going over the 50K limit, or monthly for less interest and then put that interest into another account.
I would be grateful for any opinion!

I've just paid in a cheque for £3K from Britannia BS to Lloyds which will be cleared on Thursday. I checked with Kent, they use Nat West as their clearing bank. Anyone suggest when I should post my application 1st class to make sure it gets there before Friday, but not too early in case they pay in cheques immediately. I feel that if I posted it Tuesday, to get there Wed, the chances of them having a backlog are pretty high, so hopefull it wouldn't get process for 24 hours, by then the Lloyds money would be cleared.

    Any thoughts?

I would say the latest Wednesday. As long as they have it by Friday, I think you'll be okay.

Just remembered I heard something on the radio about a postal strike happening soon but not sure whether it's a local or national thing! Check first before leaving posting to the last minute!

It is SOOO difficult to get accurate information. Do you know something we shouldn't, MickW? --- Are Kent Reliance in difficulty? - Not interested in rumours mind, but, tell me, are they a bit shakey about the ankles? -- Currently indugling in smelling salts? I've already invested the full quota and now ... well, you are making me (and perhaps others) ... uneasy ... no, that's not completely accurate .... let's just say ..... 'Icelandic?' ... (in my best Fenella Fielding throat) ... but, no ..... I don't really mean that ..... That's wicked .... More, let's say .....'Icesavey'.... and here was I thinking I was being 'Icesavy!'

You'll get my drift, I'm certain, Mike ..... Oh, sorry, Mick.

    Burrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Time to assemble the lawyers in the drawing room.
  • Just sent off my application for a 1 Year Fixed Rate account this morning (first class recorded).

I've had to juggle a few things around as I still haven't had my money back from Icesave yet, but I thought I better capitalise on this as I totally missed the Egg 6.3% a/c.
