Yes - sent it to the Darlington address. Sent it recorded though, so hopefully the 6 week clock starts from Dec 22!

Has anyone had a cheque yet for a maturing account? Whenever I call the FSCS they seem to be horribly behind with processing the forms. I'm starting to think the promised 6 week turnaround could easily turn into double that. I wish they had given us better info earlier.

    Its not looking good.

I think some may be writing to the FSCS for further recompense.
    I certainly will be.
    They misled people.
And now theyre not even likely to meet their own targets.
I got email on 23rd Nov. Bond expired Dec22nd. Got my form on Dec 23rd. Considerably later than i was given to expect. (Dec 4th dont make me laugh)
Form returned Dec 23rd. Phoned today, no record of receiving my form.

    Now what??

    Utter shambles.

Thanks for the link. I'm tempted to write asking for compensation too. When I was told on the 'phone to the FSCS helpline yesterday that they weren't even meeting their 6 -week deadline I got the "Christmas came up" line, as if it had just sprung out of a bush. No comment that it was their fault for sending the forms 4 weeks late, or that on Dec 12 I was told the 6-weeks was a likely overestimate and they were hoping to turnaround in "half that time". How long before we get the "Valentines is round the corner" or "Easter is coming up soon" excuses?

By the way, has anyone got through to a particularly nasty piece of work on the helpline that justs puts the 'phone down on you if you ask for simple information? I 've been put through to him a number of times and been cut off.

I suppose the problem is that every time the phone rings, the worker has to put down the envelope he was working on and answer the call.
Still, I bet it livens up his day, it must get very dull being in a big warehouse all on your own.

Seriously, just how many people are working on this project? I'm assuming that since Dec 31st when the electronic side shut down, it is now 100% Capita. I'll bet they don't have a clause in the contract for a reward for early completion. When it's over they're all out of a job, hence the slowdown. Of course they may have had a little whisper in the ear that there is no major hurry to pay out another few £100's of millions.

I wonder where this is going to be run from in 6 months time when the number of claimants has fallen dramatically?
  • Hadn't realised that Crapita were running it - that explains the mess up.

I reckon that a well-organised (which lets Crapita out) team of just 10 people could process 500-1000 forms a day - which would mean that the alleged 10,000 paper claims could have easily been dealt with in the month since they would have arrived. As it is, it seems that none (zero, zilch) have.

Why don't we call up and offer to e-mail copies of our completed forms for immediate repayment- surely that should be sufficient? They will always have the bogged-down paper versions to find sometime in the next 6 months/years
  • Heres a copy of a mial ive shot off this morning. More in hope than expectation.
Why did i choose to believe these !!!!ers?? What a fool.

    Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to confirm that you have received my paper appliction for a now matured Icesave Fixed Rate Bond.

I posted the form, as instructed, to the Darlington address on Dec 23rd. I was yesterday informed that, nearly a whole month later, you dont have any record of this being received.

I was also told that someone senior from the FSCS would contact me by phone to discuss this. I have heard nothing.

I am hoping that the lady who took my call misheard my postcode, so i have included it again.

I am also very annoyed with the FSCS at not meeting published deadlines for any part of the paper application process. Where are the claims actually being handled now? London or Darlington? And if it IS London, why was i told to send my form to Darlington?
Could it be that my form is sat in a pile of unopened mail, in a deserted warehouse, in the north of England?
Its no use blaming Christmas,as was cited yesterday, thats been in the diary for a while!! You should have factored the christmas break in to your timescale, maybe then, i, and lots of others would have made a different decision based on better information. Not to mention a delay in sending the forms in the first place, again, i based my decision on the expectation that i would receive my form in good time to return it comfortably before the christmas break.

Its starting to look like this a deliberate ploy to slow the whole process down.

I made a decision in good faith, based on inaccurate and misleading information supplied by the FSCS, this has now left me to date nearly £200 worse off already.
I have a substantial sum of money that is in limbo in your system.
I will be seeking further recompense for FSCS's total incompetence in this matter.

Please investigate this missing form and advise how i, and more to the point, the FSCS, might expidite my application.

Furthermore, if anyone at the FSCS thinks that the fact that the majority of savers have had their money returned, will mean this drifts from the gaze of the media, i will be doing my utmost to ensure that it does not.
I will today be contacting the Observer and Independent newspapers to make them aware of this tacit waiting game the the FSCS seems determined to play with peoples lives.

    Thankyou,
  • Good letter. How about contacting BBC's Watchdog?

Shame we haven't got any legal people on this site to help us. Where is Martin?

FSCS on a telephone enquiry have just told me that 'after delays' they are starting to send cheques out for Nov & Dec interest inclusive maturing FTBs this week. It sounds like those will take 3 or 4 weeks, as 'mid Feb for Jan maturity'.
