Coconut oil is great!

Now I have noticed a vast improvement in my skin -I can only tell because I've had very dry skin around both ankles/shins for ages which nothing was shifting. Not sore, just very red and almost scale like. A small improvement was showing because I began to use an olive oil and jojba oil shower gel (from Waitrose) but I have JUST now seen that the condition is totally cleared up.
I was lying on my bed and lifted a leg in the air, just to stretch really (and admire my newly emerging ankles!) and felt that my skin was incredibly soft and then looked at the bad patches - gone, not to be seen, not to be felt.. gone!
Had to move away from drinking the oil in just hot water and gone back to having it in a mini cup of tea to disguise the taste/texture, however won't to go back to not using it!
Great thread and thanks to all. :T0 -
For the last forty years I have had a large patch of seborrahoic dermatitis (sp?) and was prescribed coal tar shampoo, various ointments and Nizoral shampoo - none of which cured it but did make it more liveable with.
Today in the shower I realised that after using coconut oil for 4 weeks - it's all gone! there is a light brown mark where it used to be but no bump and no flaking skin.
funnily enough I have gone from taking my oil in coffee to taking it in a little hot water 20 mins before each meal. I got this from Dr Mary Enig's book Eat Fat Lose Fat.0 -
The magic of coconut oil. I'm just amazed that I hadn't heard about it before now and that it's benefits aren't shouted out more.0

Does it have to be organic and virgin to be effective?
Has anyone noticed losing weight by taking this oil?
xxI have realised I will never play the Dane!
Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!!0 -
Trawl back on this thread and find posts of Ted Hutchinson, click on more information and he has before and after pics. He started taking coconut oil and doing Dr. D's low carb diet and has lost over two stone.
It is best to be virgin and organic, this is purer as the oil is less structurally altered by the heating process they use to get the oil out in the cheaper tubs0 -
I've been taking it in my coffee since last week which is fine but its now starting to give me reflux. Any suggestions?0

Teerah do you think you may have put too much in your coffee? I find a teaspoon is the most I can manage that way but if I just have it in a little hot water then 1 tabs is okay.
If it is reflux are you taking it after food? your tummy might be too full and that could be why it is repeating.
I had reflux before taking the coconut oil but have discontinued my medication now as I no longer need to.
Hope you work it out okay.0 -
Hi Serena51. I started with a teaspoon and then upped to a tablespoon as I had no problems. I tend to take it in between meals and am not eating huge meals at the moment anyway. I woud call it heartburn, not getting any repeated tastes just the discomfort/pain.
Have googled and can only find references to coconut oil helping reflux as you mention and nothing about it causing it. Might just have to step it back a little and build it up more gradually. Trial and error. Thanks0 -
This is the sort of remedy that I like to try, but have never noticed it in the supermarkets. Can I buy this product easily in shops, or is it mail-order only?
If someone knows of brand available at, say, Sainsbury or other main store, are they able to reccommend one?0
