The card agreement came through saying they offer 0% balance transfers and 0% purchases, so can i make a balance transfer (in the first 30 days) and then for the next 9 months use it for purchases and still not pay any interest as long as i make the minimum payments?

    Thanks

Yes, but depending on the date(s) of your BT and first purchase, your 0% periods will end on different dates. Be very careful of this and, to be safe, pay off the card by the earliest 0% end date.

Once the card is up and running, register for online servicing and send them a secure message asking for your 0% end date(s).

Arent they from the date of the credit agreement being signed?

Just had a look at my credit agreement...

Purchases.....From the date of account opening.

    BT's.............From the date of transfer.

So, in theory the BT 0% end date could be nearly 30 days after the one for purchases, depending how quickly the BT is made. Due to the 'order of payments'* you may pay interest on your purchases at the end of the offer if you don't clear the entire balance by the first 0% end date.

    * Check your T&C's.

I've actually had a positive experience with HSBC (so far !) Am a customer of theirs for current ac and mortgage, rang about the 0% 9 month deal last week. About 8pm, spoke to a nice sounding Scottish lass for 5 mins (answered promptly too), then was told I could have 5.5K, which is what I wanted, forms arived yesterday, so *crosses fingers* all has gone well so far. Sorry to hear of the negative experiences of other posters in this thread.
  • Just to add my poor experience to the thread.

I applied for my HSBC card online in early November. After 2-3 weeks of silence, I rang them, - they said they had sent forms for signing - but they must have got lost in the post - yeah right! They would send some more.

I duly received the forms, signed amd returned them with a pay slip and utility bill. The personal docs came back about 10 days later - and thats it.

I was ill over the holiday period so havent pursued this until today.

I too spent ages on hold and couldnt get through to an advisor. Out of desperation I rang a freephone number (noticed there weren't any email addresses). Got through straight away - but the guy said he would have to transfer me. Was put on hold for 15 minutes and finally got through to some foreign land. The guy was fairly understandable and after a few security checks informed me that there was a problem with my signatures and I would receive a security letter within a few days which I would have to reply to !!!!!!!

This conversation took place today - 2 months after my application. I duly told the gentleman what I thought about HSBC and their customer care and told him what they could do with their card.

What a joke. Being a first direct customer, I mistakenly thought that HSBC would be just as customer oriented. Ah well - you live and learn. :)

An update to my earlier post in this thread:-

Applied 11/12/05.............still waiting for a card so today rang them to see what their Jackanory was..........Bad start.....I'm now in India.............'Can you tell me what is delaying my application'?........Reply: No Sir Mr......... we are very busy, but rest assured your application is being dealt with as quickly as possible.........Can you tell me how far along the application trail my application has got ?..............No Sir Mr.......... I don't have access to that information or any other information about your application  OK, can you put me through to somebody who can.......No Sir Mr............. Are you the application help line ?...............Yes Sir Mr.............. but I cannot give you any information about how far your application has progressed  So, you can't tell me when I/m likely to get a card or the credit limit...or your name (to try and catch him out) ...........No Sir (it worked) Mr............but i can tell you your credit limit will be approx £6000 and you should call back if you still haven't received it within another 10 days !!!!!!!!........At that point I lost the will to live !!!!

HSBC - One of the worlds greatest DISORGANISATIONS

Question : What's the record for an Indian call centre repeating your surname in general conversation ?

I Rang them today... after being put through to the right person (had a couple of Questions) took about 10mins..and got a £2500 limit over the phone, which aint bad as i am disabled and dont work.. they said form in the post to sign..soon as they get that they will be in-touch about the BT.. but also said that there was a back log so 2-3 weeks..!!

if they have ok`ed you then you should`nt realy have to send any other id too them...as they credit check you...

Another post from me :- You get £2500 and don't work. I earn £75k per year, have a spotless credit history and they offer me a mere £6k approx, possibly.............I'm trying to figure that out, but can't.
