Well - what a busy busy month December has been!!
All of my organising has gone right oot the window!! I don't think I've fared too badly - there were a few pressies cropped up which I hadn't planned for (always great when you bump into people who have pressies for you, and you haven't one for them!?) - an my works night out cost a lot more than I expected!
I've pulled it back in other ways though, so have still managed to finish the year with an entirely clear credit card, and no overdraft!! :j :T If I can have a fairly frugal January, I'll even manage to skim a bit off what's left for savings!!
On a massive massive positive note - I got into uni!! :A :T :j So my head's doing birlies at the mo trying to figure out my finances and just how much my savings targets should be etc!! I'll get back on that one though!
As well as that - I think I may well be moving in with OH just as I start uni! Big step - I've never lived with a boy before
But again, means a lot of calculations with the finances!!

I am in love with the Orient Express, it was out of this world, the food, the service, we just wanted for nothing. Thou didnt find any rich hunky men........
Had an incentive for my own debt free life, if I pay 4k off my debts by Mar 2011, (mine and mates 40th bday), she'll pay for the both of us to have afternoon tea at the Ritz....
Sounds positive from the inteview, have they given u a date when u should have an answer back. ? x
Mum2one - I'm so so sorry I haven't replied!! December turned out to be a lot more mental than I'd expected! Plus, my bro-in-law has managed to disconnect our t'internet at home (by accident!!
), and there are only certain computers in work which let me post on MSE (How ruuuuude!!!)
I'm glad you enjoyed the Orient Express! Sounds like a great experience - if only we could live like that all the time eh?
Not a bad wee incentive for you either!!
I got into Uni!
Very pleased - just need to work out my plan of action to get some savings behind me!! Starting with finding at least one more job!! I don't mind the working 2 jobs - it's just the finding a second one I can't be bothered with!! But needs must I suppose!!
xx0 -
Congratulations on getting into uni, get as many surveys etc done and if you can get a 2nd job that will help.
xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Thanks Mum2one - I've a telephone interview today for a job in Lloyds TSB Call Centre, which I'd actually really love to do! I would hope it'd maybe even teach me a thing or 2 about all things financial!! Fingers crossed anyway!

Well hello, Hello!! And Happy New Year to you all!!
It's fair to say my diary has fallen by the wayside every so slightly! I've been busy - but not spending any money!!
I finished the year, with no overdraft, no credit card balance, and £200 in savings! I would ideally have preferred to have slightly more saved - BUT that's the best position I've been in financially come the year end - possibly ever!! :T So I'm feeling very upbeat about the year ahead!
My New Years resolutions:
To eat More fish
To try hard to be happy! (Random you may think, but my dad died at the beginning of 2008, and as a result the rest of the year sucked a bit! Although obviously I'll always still miss him, I'm gonna make a conscious effort not to be so sad about it so often!
)
Although 2008 was a toughie, there were a few positive things to come out of it for me.
- I have the loveliest, kindest most sincere boyfriend in the world (OK, so technically I met him at the very tail end of 2007 - but it didn't really take off properly until into 2008!)
- I made some decent in-roads into my debt, and finally took full control of my finances, as well as learning the meaning of "living within my means!" I do still have my bank loan, but I also learned to just accept that for what it is - and that it would just need run it's full term before it's paid off!!
- I got into Uni!! Which ok, didn't actually change anything for last year, but it has set me up for this year with something to really look forward to!!
As far as short term goals go, I've got back on track with my diet, and am also sticking with my gym regime! So hopefully 2009 will see a fitter, healthier me!! Oh - and I've learned the value of getting a bargain!! We managed to ag a set of 10 cinema tickets for £35 yesterday, so that'll be a cheap social life sorted out for u for a while! (OK, so that doesn't really fit into my year plan - but I'm quite chuffed that we've effectively got the half price!!
)
All in all, I finally feel as though I'm starting to take control of my life, and get a wee bit of direction! It'll still be a few years before I'm home and dry, but I'm so happy just to have something to be aiming for!
Don't get me wrong, I've had an absolute ball in the beginning of my 20's, but I suppose the day had to come where I began to at least think about the future, and 2008/9 for me, will be the years that I finally some decent foundations in place for that!!
Anyway - ramble over!!
Happy New Year once again, to anyone who's reading!! Hope you all have a good Tuesday!!

Thanks Emms! - Hopefully it'll go ok!
We've just cross posted I think - so you've missed my ramble for the morning!!
I have my annual review with my boss in about an hours time, so therefor not much point in starting "proper" work - so I'm cruising about here wasting some time!! :shhh:
How's your morning going?

Hi CWM (still need to give you another name... I really can't say carp... I can't!!) Definitely cross posted - your positivity is inspiring!! Good luck with everything hun, and I'll be reading along to see how you're doing!
Sorry to hear about your dad xx and like you said, you are obviously going to miss him, but I admire your attitude of trying to be be a bit more happier. - he would want you to be happy.
My day is good thank you! Am getting things sorted slowly but surely. As stated I think I was hoping for a miracle to happen at christmas (too many movies
) but I'm on the path... getting there!
I'm hoping as I'm a year behind you on the debts thing - I could hopefully be in a position similar to yours this time next year. In fact you've just given me my challenge!!!
You really are my scottish twin
SNAP!! - I met the most genuine sincere guy ever late last year (a year behind you). I've finally met someone who I can be myself with, who I really like and trust, and strangely enough knew from the moment I met him I liked him.
Hope review goes well hun!!

Yay - I passed the first stage!
I've got the final interview next Thursday!! Fingers crossed!! If I could do that even for 6 months, I'd be sitting pretty money-wise by the time I get to uni!

Well.... I suppose you could call me Laura! Plenty others do - and I can think of worse things to be called!
I am also a Gemini, and was always convinced I was split from my twin at birth - maybe that's you?! :rotfl: That's good about the guy - it's such a good feeling to finally meet a goon 'un! I've kissed more than my fair share of frogs along the way - but hey - it's all about the story! And it'd be a boring life if you got everything right the first time round!
Yeah you'll get there Emms - sometimes it feels as though as it's never ending, and almost a bit pointless - but if you put things into perspective you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! You've done really well to even just break the cycle of getting into more debt - even if you're not quite reducing it just yet! One of my friends, has about £4k on her credit card, she earns about £1500 a month, and is probably left with about £1000 after she's paid all her bills. So, she's been plugging away at clearing the CC for around 1.5 years now, and how much has she cleared? About £250! - Purely cos she'll get paid, throw lots of money at it, feel dead chuffed with herself, but then get half way through the month and realise she hasn't enough to live on, so whacks the rest back on her CC - madness!!
Review went ok BTW - finding it hard to care now though - I know I'm leaving in 6 months, so there isn't quite the same pressure to make it work that there maybe should be!
Thanks for the thought though!
