    Xmas Saver!
well today is definitely not an NSD!

In my attempt at money saving I'm just back from having my hair done at our local college. It's not the best cut I've ever had, but it's by far not the worst either. The cut and colour are actually ok, the girl was just really bad at blowdrying it, but I'll attack it with the GHD's and that should be that sorted!

It cost £19 in total, plus a tip (I gave her £2, £1 out of the money I lifted from the bank, and £1 of change that was already in my purse) so that brings my total for the month down to £376.23.

I need some shampoo and stuff, so I'll try and get that today so that it doesn't ruin an NSD later in the week! Hhhhhmmmm..... just how much will that set me back though - buying toiletries is a big weakness, and I usually manage to not blow any money these days by just avoiding buying them altogether...... we'll see how I get on later on!

    xx

If you need shampoo etc, dont know if you have Poundland by you, theres an article in todays Sun, comparing the prices between Poundland and major retailers, some of the differences were amazing.........and it was on good products.

Have to confess Im doing well on Shampoo +conditioner front am testing a product from a top hair retailer b4 it hits the market and they sent me a 400ml bottle of both. x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • just wanted to say hi after i have read through your diary, (would of been rude not to) and congrats on clearing your cc and od!!

you are doing really well on your xmas shopping, i have been ruthless this year but your bargin skills put me to shame!!!!!

good luck with your interview, if nerves get to you, just think of your interviewer on the loo, trust me it works. (or if they are male and good looking then naked which also works and puts a smile on your face which they take as being friendly lol)

Ha ha - thanks very much! :rotfl: I'll try bear that one in mind!

Yeah I'm being extremely tight with the crimbo pressie's this year - very unlike me - but needs must! The kids won't know any difference on what I've paid cos I've got good deals for their stuff (and I'm kinda convinced they don't appreciate it anyway they get so much - I'm positive they wouldn't be able to tell you what I got them last year, and I spent £50 each on them then), and the adults have been moaning at me for years to cut down what I spend on them! I'm the baby of the family (my sis' are 16+17 years older than me), so I think they appreciate that I don't earn as much as they do, plus for every 1 pressie they get me, I have 4 to buy in return by the time I get their hubby's and kids!

Luckily my bro's as tight as a drum, and doesn't believe you should get any presents when you're over the age of 21 - when he first suggested stopping buying pressie's I found it really hard, but now I'm quite glad of it to be honest!!

Anywho - thanks very much for stopping by! - Feel free to come again any time soon!! ;)

Another very good suggestion mum2one - you're much more of a pro at this than me! I don't think we have a poundland nearby - I'll need to investigate though! There is a bodycare, which the last time I ventured in was much less expensive than the supermarket - I'd forgotten all about it 'til now!

I'll need to go tonight since I've no shampoo for morning, which means I'll need to go the supermarket as it's the only place open - but I'll try be a bit more MSE about it next month! :D

My sis-in-law (to be) came home on Sunday night having picked and bought our bridesmaid's dresses so now I have a bit of a dilemma! In short, the dress is a site on me, she decided on it without seeing me in it, so obviously doesn't care very much what I look like or think of it.

It's really dark purple, and I look like a pregnant elephant - one of these ones which is really tight under the bust, then kicks out. Her and her sis (who was there when she picked it, and tried it on, but given she's a size 6 can pull that kind of look off), think that it's great because it means we can eat as much as we like and you won't see our stomach's?!

I'm getting more annoyed every time I think about it, cos it's gonna cost me the best part of £1500 just to be at his wedding since he choose to get married in Mexico, and I'm gonna be forced into wearing a £20 dress from New Look which I look an absolute site in!!!

I grudge it more, because if I do get into uni, that £1500 that I'm spending, would've seen me through about 4/5 months, and now I'll have to get a part-time job to fund that - I just feel a bit as though she obviously doesn't appreciate how much I'm having to put myself out, if she thinks that little of me that she'd force me into a cheap dress I look hideous in, even though she knows I don't like it. (I did try to be positive about the dress, but I'm not very good at hiding my feelings, and both my mum and boyfriend also said they didn't like me in it when she was there).

Anyway - that's my grumble for today! I suppose it's not my wedding day, so I'll just have to lump it!!

Just a thought but is there any way you can tactfully mention the dress, say what a shame you werent there as part of the experience, and politely add in that you apprictae being asked to be bridesmaid etc etc, (sick bucket time), but the dree isnt right and would need some adjustments (good white lie) and the cost would be a lot more than the dress. The thing is you have mum and brother who agree with you that it doesnt look right, I think your half way there.

I know it sounds cheeky, but have you said to your family re the cost of going to the wedding, (again grovel etc), but with wanting to go to uni, even if you say look instead of xmas prezzies etc have some money towards the fare, Im not being funny to you, but 1,500 is a lot to spend when it might not of even been your choice to go there.

    Good luck xx

  • No you're absolutely right, it's a lot of money! And it wouldn't have been my choice to go on that type of holiday if I'd been choosing to spend that money - I'd probably have chosen Canada or Australia or something like that - rather than a fortnight in an all inclusive resort that really could be anywhere!

But hey, he's the only brother I've got and he's only gonna get married once so I didn't really wanna not be there! My main problem now is that I agreed to going before I decided to go back to uni, so I don't really feel as though I can pull out!

I'm sure we'll have a great time when we're there - it's just the money side of it that stressing me out!

Hopefully she'll have a re-think about the dress, I was thinking I could maybe suggest that I could get a dress in the same colour, but even a different style which suits me better. Even if I've to pay for it myself - since she's a wee bit on the tight side, I think it was probably the £20 price tag that appealed to her, rather than whether it suited us or whatever!

  • This seems to have turned into my spending diary rather than anything else. Which I suppose is part of my debt free wannabe lifestyle, so to update, I went shopping tonight and bought toiletries at a grand total of £6.34 - which leaves me a total of £369.89 to live on for the rest of the month - here's hoping I'll still manage to save even a wee bit off of that! :p

    xx

Ur doing really well, your managing your money, and by knowing where you spend every penny, it gives you a better idea.

Any more new on the uni front, have u had chance to do Quidco yet, at least with some of the offers, should make a small dent in the hol fund. Hope the suggestion of the dress works, Im sure with the offer of you buying ur own will do the trick.

Ur xmas spend is brilliant, nearly had a heart attack earlier, added up the cost of everything Ive brought for dd, didnt think she had to much, started wrapping, thats what gave me the idea, I've spent over £300, yet theres nothing that thats big purchase, the dearest was £20 for a quilt cover!

Guess its me who needs a kick up the rear for nxt yrs spends. xx
