  • hi all
this is my first time posting,im a single mum and quite open minded i rickon i could do this can somebody tell me how i can get into this plz xx;)
  • I think that you guys need to chill out...as for the Mandi being a 'pimp' is utter rubbish all she has done is make a suggestion if you dont agree dont do it. A pimp is someone who takes advantage of young vulnerable women (or men) for the sole purpose of making money, pimps often beat their victims and force them to have sex with strangers, so how is Mandi a pimp? And to suggest she is one is just plain nasty and in my opinion a bit sick.
Would I sell my SL persona for sex...no, but to me its not much different to having cyber sex except that you can make a little bit of money and its certainly no different from being a sex chat worker. If thats what you want to do and enjoy it well wheres the harm? You can not say its the same as selling your body on the streets its not.

Of course everyone has a right to their opinion, however, making personal attacks of on people, for example, the name calling is not on!

I believe that Mandi is offering a service of information about getting into provision of commercial sex services, from which Mandi may or may not derive a financial or other benefit now or in the future. That's recruiting.

the basis of your belief is that mandi is offering a service. she is not, and never has. a suggestion is not a service. you cannot recruit someone to something that is non-existent.

Now..... I don't know what you call encouraging someone

I'm afraid I have fallen victim to my own ranting. In that particular post I say this ..
not to actively sign them up and send them out to some random virtual street corner.

    and then this ..
i've just re-read the whole thread and nobody has actively tried to help anyone to join second life with the sole purpose of becoming an escort.

    which leads to this
... has actively tried to encourage people to join second life to become virtual escorts then please do show me.

I meant recruit, rather than encourage. Based on saying "encourage" though, your point is indeed valid. Semantics I know, but re-reading what I wrote, it's a mistake on my part and I hold my hands up.

In reply to the posts by Tojo, Dustangle, and Edinburghlass, If you contact MSE towers, they have my user Name, in SL.

Also a statment that I have NO financial intrest or that I will gain anything now or in the future, from this thread .

I wil leave it for individuals to decide, if they wish to join SL.

Im the meantime , If any one has any * proof* that the above my in fact be
Incorrect, Id be more than happy for it to be posted openly in the forum

You haven't removed the "over 18s" reference, and you probably can't. I am not objecting to the reference, I just thought it was hypocritical.

What I fundamentally object to is anything that encourages people to get into any aspect of the commercial sex industry, and that includes your original post. I don't care if it's legal, and I don't care if it isn't particularly lucrative, at least from an adult's point of view. Exploiting people sexually in any way is corrupting, and anyone who does anything to encourage it is complicit. You are actively promoting a way in. That makes you a pimp in my view. Again, I don't know if you, or the poster who has had a go at me, is benefiting financially or otherwise from the "service" you are offering. You are promoting and essentially recruiting people into this work, and it is possible that for some of the many people who are keen to learn more from you it will be a first step into "the life."

You and others object to the forthright way I have chosen to express myself. I won't apologise for this. I do think it is important that someone stands up against what you are saying and I am heartened that I am not the only one who feels this way.

I also think that the proprietors of this forum have shown poor judgement in permitting it to be used to allow you to promote this.

You seem to be making an assumption that people can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality though. I do acknowledge your concerns and feel that I do understand them (possibly). After all, there are people who would bump into (in real life) and beat up the baddies from soap operas because they forget about the difference between reality and fantasy. It has happened. But I don't think you can go around banning something because a very tiny minority are like that. A bit like banning alcohol because a small minority can't control it or banning credit cards because some people get in trouble with them.
I do share the concerns about minors though as they may be more easily corruptible. I don't know anything about SL but I'm surprised that there isn't some sort of check (e.g. credit card number where £1 is deducted).

I'm just wondering if this 6' 1" overweight, middle-aged, balding bloke can morph into a 25 year old blonde with a nice pair and a wiggly bottom. :D

I would have to agree with your sex chat worker analogy and I assume that we all agree that a sex chat worker both has a job and is part of the commercial sex industry?

The problem is however that not everyone agrees with us and even though jasonwatkins has thanked you for making the above analogy, their previous comments would suggest that they may not feel that your analogy is a very good one.

Second Life has nothing to do with the "commercial sex industry"...... There is no work here. There is no job. There is no service.

    All very confusing.

my thanks was actually for peridot's agreement that calling mandi a pimp was insulting and unecessarily abusive.

the analogy about sex chat work is indeed correct, but that is not, and has never been the point of the thread.

as i said, second life is not the commercial sex industry. the commercial sex industry encompasses pornographic films, sex shops, strip clubs e.t.c..

second life is a computer simulation of real life and all it contains, and, as i have previously said, sex is part of real life.

the point of this thread was to merely suggest virtual escorting as a possible income. not to actively seek to sign people up to a going concern and, as I have again said, pack them off to the nearest virtual street corner.

I think this is where you aren't helping your argument.

If Second Life is a simulation of real life, real life contains a commercial sex industry and this is simply replicated in SL.
  • i would like to know more about this....

This is basically repeating what I have been saying - real life does indeed contain sex and also a commercial sex industry.

second life does not directly simulate the commercial sex industry.

dustangle's objections are based on this notion that mandi is/was actively seeking to recruit people into the commercial sex industry, which suggests that he considers second life to be the commercial sex industry.

this is, and always has been, incorrect.
