  • This is strange, on the DVD forum there is an E-mail on 9/1/06 from the same address(customer support) saying
'This model hasn't been discontinued and is still current and available'.
    Are they really this unreliable???

I got one better than that from Olympus... they also said there are no supply problems:

    Dear John,

I can confirm that the E-1 is still current and there are no known issues with supply.

    Regards,
    Customer Support

Well I think it depends on who at Olympus decides to answer the question of is the E-1 still a current production model and are there issues with supply. The above quote was an email to my son (see page 98 of this thread).

I wonder if we will ever know;)
  • Whatever Olympus c/service may say, the E-1 is to all intents and purposes discontinued - i.e. the replacement model is due to be announced before the end of this month.

As of this moment, some people may choose to call it a 'current model' as the new product (E-3, IIRC) is not yet out, but I strongly suspect that production has ceased and inventory is being run down in preparation for the new release.
    Nice to save.

I totally agree with what's written above.

Just to add, i'd imagine an announcement of its replacement is due at PMA '06.

  • If its of any help, this e-mail was rec'd this morning.
    Dear customer,

E-1 is still available but it will be discontinued soon.

Please, contact to olympus distributor in UK for further information about
    the availability:

    Olympus UK Ltd.
    2-8 Honduras Street
    London EC1Y 0TX

Logically if it is to be discontinued soon then its a current model.

  • Have a look at todays guardian, there is an article about the Apple mistake. Apparently unless you can prove that Apple had stock at the time when money was taken from your account, you don't have a leg to stand on! I can't see how anyone can prove that as Olympus keep giving different answers and unless someone has access to Apples inventory, there is no way of knowing. Oh and the guardian reckon it'll cost £500 minimum to persue it as a legal issue.
