Comet and ToysRUs both told me on Friday that they are expecting shipments in the next two weeks.
Personally I don't believe any of the rumours about supply - I think this is the classic pre-Christmas latest toy hype:
- Launch a new "must have" product with lots of publicity
- It sells out immediately, and kids go mad that they can't have one
- The hype builds up and all the kids who didn't want one now do, because they're hard to get
- Just in time the supplier manages to get some more in, and the market floods with them
- Everyone is happy, but particularly Sony!
I'm not overly concerned about this.
BUT - if the one that Boots is delivering tomorrow does fail there's going to be trouble!!
p.s. If a ship WAS blocking the Suez Canal to the point where Sony's PS2s couldn't get through, then EVERY ship supplying the UK from the far east would be stuck - this would be on the national news! You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
I read about the laser problem on one of the mod chip forums I subscribe to.
The new slimline PS2's do not require a chip now to be fitted, you can get them playing copies by simply putting tape down on two switches and using a bootdisk called "magic swap".
A good number of people reported laser burn out on their machines soon after "modifying" them, and it was initialy suspected that it was the modification that was causing the problem, until people started reporting that this was happening to people who hadnt done it yet.
As I understand it, this isnt just a stopping working thing, its a propper burnout from the laser component, smoke n'all.
Hype to build sales and pre-orders ? Maybe - its happened before..... I personaly hope not, it would be great for the market to see $ony screw up christmas, and give their opponents a chance to make some ground on them.0 -
what would annoy me more than anything would be to get a new ps2 after hunting and sweating and swearing and out of pocket to get one to find its faulty take it back to find out they half the price after christmas .. now that would send me madThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

hi i work for woolies and last week staff were issued a pre order barcode for customers to order a ps2 for £20.
After one day and 2000+ pre orders wooloworths were informed by sony of thier xmas allocation. needless to say this pre order offer was pulled almost instantly. Woolies can just about guarantee these. i would estimate there will be about 10000 - 15000 max before xmas. this is ony 15 per store. there are also no dates so we have no clue as to when or if they will arrive.0
