Does anyone else know if there is a fault with the new sony ps2?

I'm worried because I got one for my son for Christmas, checked it out and its working perfectly but it would make for a rotten Christmas if it stops working soon after he gets it.Pink

I don't think there is any faults with the new PS2, but just lots of rumours.

I have just found this story about the stock shortages....

The reason that there are no PS2s is because a production plant went down for a few days in China for an 'unspecified' reason. Then after this was overcome they loaded all the consoles on to a big ship headed for Europe, which proceeded to get stuck in the Suez canal behind a broken-down Super-tanker...

    and here is another story.......

Sony was making a vital component for the system in-house at one of their Japanese factories. They bought up another factory in order to increase the output, but unfortunately, the new factory was producing more defects than usable components. Because of this, Sony announced that they were cutting the launch shipment from 1 million units to a mere 500,000—still a lot of systems under normal circumstances, but the PS2 was never intended to be a normal launch.

    And another.....

The lasers have an unbelievable failure rate. A lot of people are "stress
testing" their new PsTwo's by playing a DVD movie on repeat for 24-48 hours.
Amazing how many lasers burn out before then. I don't know what unit is in
these new ones but it is worse than the very first Ps2's.

Many different stories available, so who knows what to believe  ???

Not sure what all the fuss is about, we have thousands at work; but then we are sony's sole distributor :P in the uk. And I don't mean Ent Uk or anyone like thatl; they get it from us. Well, the sister company of the company i work for, same site etc. Put it this way, i could pick one up for 90.12 this week (well we had them back in stock last week anyway!)

db then get your company or your sister company or whoever to get off there backsides and release them or is this all a ploy to bump up the price yet again

I went to my local Game shop today and asked the manager about the new PS2.

He said that Sony under estimated the demand due to many existing owners trading in for the new model, plus the additional demand for christmas, there was never going to be enough to supply everyone.

Also he mentioned he heard a rumour that there is a warehouse full of the new PS2 somewhere near the M25, and that they were going to flood the market just before christmas.

Game are taking £50 deposit for orders to guarantee one before xmas. (deposit is refundable)

Game are expecting stock in the first week of December.

They did have several pre-owned old type PS2 in stock for £79.99

manager of the local Woolworths quoted the broken down ship story,he also seems to think they won't be seen before xmas (my daughter works there..)

they will price match or give you a better x-box bundle if you moan

there goes my hope of a price war before xmas ...but then again there will be a glut of PS2's in the new year !!!!
