Hi Jordan
I've checked those HJT and Start Up logs you posted. All are OK. Nothing there that would worry me too much.
Few thoughts.
HJT ..... you have the HJT program in a temporary location. The program makes automatic backups in case you fix something in error and need to restore it. If you don't keep the HJT folder in a permanent place those backups will be lost. Go to the HJT folder and move it to the C: drive to keep it safe.
03 entry .... go to safe mode and run another HJT scan. If this entry is still there ....
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - !!42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file)
.... fix it with HJT to remove it.
Broadjump .... this is the newer name for BroadJump Foundation Client (BJCFD) from BroadJump.com, now Motive. The software collects information on your Internet activity and sends it to your ISP so that your ISP can serve you advertisements related to the type of sites you visit. I would ask your ISP on how to remove it and why they installed it in the first place. Please do not uninstall the program, since it looks like it is required for your internet connection. This especially applies to those who use SBC as their ISP (Internet Service Provider). If they can't/won't resolve this problem for you, then it's time to switch to another provider that don't embed this spyware in their program. You will most likely also have Support.com installed. The same situation applies here also. Try to find out how to remove it from your ISP. Don't uninstall it yourself.
Please update us on how your system is behaving now after all the things done in recent times. Please post another HJT log just to make sure of how it is at the moment. Logs are only reliable so long as system changes aren't made. I'd like to see a fresh one.0 -
Hi All,
Sorry for the delay but this is the first chance I have had to reply (Bank Holiday Walk Duty!!!)
I think things have taken a turn for the worst and I need help to stop the spiral!
With all the talk of updates, late last night a Zone Alarm update poped up so I plumped for it. Since then I have had nothing but trouble.
It was an update to the latest version and would not install correctly. Then it blocked my internet access!! I tried to uninstall it and put and the old version back on. Now its jammed. When the PC boots up it goes straight into windows installer but fails to install. If I try and install the older version, it says installer is already being used and crashes right out of XP.
So currently I have NO firewall as even the SP2 firewall will not load. Zone Alarm (either version) is not obviously anywhere to be found.
Also, (pchelpman) I havnt done any of the suggestions on your last post as Im not sure if things are creeping back on again. Ill post a current log and thanks again for the help - you guys are GREAT!!

Sorry Jordan. When I made that last post I had a feeling things wouldn't be fixed.
That log is a mess.
You are infected worse than before and that 023 Service "mousehs.exe" has returned (along with other things).
All reading this ... 023 services cannot be fixed with a simple tick box & "Fix Checked" in HJT. They require special removal.
I am working on a fix now but need to know one thing.
Can you boot to safe mode?
Let me know as soon as you can.0 -
Hi pchelpman,
Yes I can boot into safe mode ok. Should I be worried???
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TaskControlLog] csrdeu32.exe
The above seems to have reterned too - why would this happen??
Also, please note that I have NO firewall currently running (problems described in my previous post)
Thanks again for all your work - Jordan.0 -
OK... safe mode...good. I can start your fix from there.
That 04 entry... yes, I had noticed it is back. That plus new infections.
As you have turned off the MS firewall, and have no other F/W running, can you reactivate your Zone Alarm free firewall? If you need to reinstall it download here.....
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
I haven't tried to do this BUT you may be able to download the Zone Alarm setup.exe file to another PC then transfer/reinstall it to the troubled PC via floppy or CD.
I'll start work on the fix from safe mode. I think the first thing to get rid of is that persistent 023 mousehs service. I'll give you a procedure specific for that.
Let me know how you get on with a firewall. I don't really like you not having one operating.
One more thought....as you have Ewido can you update it to the latest definitions then have it scan/fix your PC as far as it can? Again, I don't like asking you to do this without a firewall but you could try it. Let me know what you do.
When you have acted on this post please post a fresh HJT log. Just to make sure nothing else has gone wrong.0 -

As above pchelpman,
I cant install, uninstall (as I cant find it) any version of Zone Alarm. The PC seems to be jammed trying to install Zone Alarm but it fails and crashes so the PC automatically re-starts.
If you require any more info please let me know.
Ran ewido and it cleaned 15 objects heres the latest log (not sure whether its better or worse)

OK Jordan…. here we go. We’ll have to do this in stages and it will probably take more than one sweep to fix it all.
First you must print this out (somehow) to help you follow the recommendations.
HijackThis makes backups of things it deletes. If you fix the wrong thing you can recover it. If the HijackThis folder is in a temporary place those backups will be lost.
Your HijackThis folder is still in a temporary place. Go to the folder and move it to the C: hard drive so it’s safe.
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.
Now to that stubborn 023 service.
Click on Start => Run => and type in….
services.msc
Click "OK".
In the services window find service Mouse Hardware Sync
…Right-click and choose "Properties".
…On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service.
…Beside "Startup Type", in the dropdown menu, select "Disabled". Click “Apply” then "OK".
Exit the Services utility.
When finished….- Open HiJackThis
- Click on the configure button on the bottom right
- Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
- Click on "Delete an NT service"
- Copy and paste this in: mousehs
- Click "ok", then reboot
Once you have performed the above steps navigate to and delete the following file IF present:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousehs.exe
Empty recycle bin.
In safe mode open HijackThis and click on Scan. Check/tick the boxes next to the following entries (make sure you do not miss any):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - !!42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TaskControlLog] csrdeu32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers, before clicking “Fix checked”.
Delete the following Files and Folders indicated in bold IF they still exist:
csrdeu32.exe …. You must run a system wide search for this one and delete all instances of it, IF any found.
C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe/ background
If you get an error when deleting a file right click on the file and click once on properties.
Then check to see if the Read Only attribute is checked/ticked. If it is uncheck/untick it and try deleting the file again.
Please post a fresh HijackThis log so that we can check your system again.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY…..
Please also give us an update on how your system is operating now. Can you boot up correctly now? Is your CPU still at 100%? If so which processes are using up the most CPU (check this in Task manager)?
There are other entries in the log that concern me but I am hopeful we can crack those, if necessary, after this stage.0 -
Right all done! Im sure we have all struggled to get onto the site this eve so I hope this works!
All done, except I couldnt find the files when doing a system wide search (after they had been 'fixed' in hijackthis) but I suppose that doesnt matter.
The PC is operating OK. Still very sluggish to operate, word, excell and other programs but quite quick on while browsing the net (thru IE v6).
The CPU idles at 5% ish so no real problems there.
My main issue is still with Zone alarm. Every time I boot up the PC the first thing that starts is windows installer saying preparing to install. It idles on this and if left for 2-4 mins it will disappear OR if I cancel the window - it says cacelling....and again idles for a couple of mins before it closes.
If I try and load XP2 firewall it says: 'Windows F/W settings cannot be displayed because the asscociated service is not running. Do you want to start the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?'
If I click No, it closes. If I click Yes it says its starting the ICF/ICS service but then fails due to an unexpected error. (?!?!?)
Anyway the log:
