Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go and see how I get on.

One thing though - why is it EVERYTHING on here soon turns into somekind of verbal fight !!
Conor has tended to troll in most posts throughout this thread.

What I find much more offensive, is my reply to Conor's post (#48) was deleted. So you defend yourself and you get your posts deleted - I see how it works on here now.

I have a feeling Conor is some almighty powerful deity! Possibly just flicked his wrist in disgust and made your post vanish :p

  • Hi - have read all this - can I delete windows updates from my system using add/remove programmes - oops change that - SHOULD I remove them to free up space - I'm running slow and I have 79% free space on hard drive but virtual memory is running really slow. It's using 355 when xp only has 254 -sorry working from memory here @ work because my home one is too slow to do much on.
I have a programme called `fixit' which has scanned and come up with pages and pages and pages of stuff it wants me to go through to say yes or no to delete. How do I know if it's `safe' to do so. Is this `hijack this' thing you all talk about `idiot proof' because if it is - I'll have bash at that.
Sorry too many questions - so little knowledge.

    Skint ~
do NOT remove the windows updates. Theyre there there to protect your computer
79% free space on your hard drive is fine anyways so deleting them wont make a JOT of difference
id suggest to NOT run the 'fixit' program
    download CCLEANER
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the top 2 scans (Backup the registry when it asks)
At the top it should say the version then the service pack.
Can you tell me the service pack and the informatin under that (cpu, ram and graphics card)

    Then download HIJACK THIS
    http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html
scan and post the log here so we can see what your computers doing :)
