I was thinking the same thing when making my first post in here. But, with all due respect to the OP, I don't think they would be able to do this. Usually laptops come with reinstallation CDs, but many users don't bother formatting before installing... .:pTruth be known, they don't know how to use the software properly, and blames the software for their incompetency.

I intend to talk them through the process. :)

I tend to agree, loads have slagged off AVG 8 and switched to an alternative because they could not be bothered to read the manual and learn about the totally new and enhanced product!

Wrong. I slagged off AVG because the free version DOES NOT do the things I listed. That's does not as in the functionality is not there, not that I've not read the manual. The things I stated it doesn't do are what AVG list on their site in the comparison chart between Free and Pro.

I slagged off AVG based on results of several very reputable test sites.

    2.57 GB
    37.2 GB

Is that any good, or should I have more?

That's more than plenty. A GB is more than enough.

You need to delete gigabytes -lots!-
    Aim for 25% free space.

    Why? You only need:

Sufficient space for the swapfile and sufficient space for programs to write temp files as well as a bit for defragging so you only need at most 1GB.

25% free...never heard anything so ludicrous. So going on your asinine comment, if I have a 1 TB hard drive in my computer, I should make sure I have 25% or 250GB free. So considering my lappy hard drive is 1/3 of that, does it mean I'm screwed? A hard drive is there for storage, not just to sit there empty.

Not quite sure why you say this, it's not deleteing files - just registry entries.

CCleaner's registry cleaner is probably one of the safer ones out there. It's never given me any problems, either.

If you want a very thorough registry cleaner, use Regseeker. Again this has personally caused me no problems, but usually the amount of errors it finds on the first run can be alarming - I've personally seen it find just over 2000 errors.

    1) Registry Entries are MORE IMPORTANT than files. Files can easily be replaced. Registry entries can't.
    2) Most Registry Cleaners do very little but they do break things - see 3)
    3) The "errors" they detect are when they find keys that don't correspond to what they have in a database. If it's an unknown but perfectly valid registry key, it can be flagged up as a false positive. Many registry cleaners that were in use when Vista came out and were used on Vista flagged up LOADS of errors which actually weren't.

CCleaner and Regseeker both break Microplanet Gravity. NTREGOPT doesn't. NTREGOPT however does break other things.
