Thanks pixie. I did know that and got a lump sum payment a couple of years ago because nasty (tax credits) man had told me I did.
BTW the lump sum went on debts & bills  .

  • Hi Rugbymum, I don't think I can add much to what's already been said but wanted to wish you good luck.

What sort of specialised foods do you need to buy for the kids? Just wondering as Glutafin gluten free site does some freebies, it's just a little thing but I know how expensive this stuff is normally, thought it might help a bit if that's what you buy.
Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012.

Thanks Red. I didn't know about that. I must confess I try to stick with Sainsburys own brand stuff, which works out cheaper and they have a surprisingly large range of special stuff. The problem tends to be the combination of foods to avoid; dairy & soya & wheat.

I guess I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that I hadn't thought of!

Although I am tied into contracts for the phone well into next year I have had some good news from orange, so landline will definately be dropping to £17 pm!

  • Gosh that is a tricky combination. Website is http://www.glutafin.co.uk/
Some of their stuff is dairy free too so might be useful.

    My suggestions would be to:

    * If you're paying for calls/texts on top of any standard mobile phone or landline contracts, get yourself a VOIP account instead and make your calls/texts via the computer. I spent about £4 a month on all calls and texts and I have to phone abroad a lot for my job.

    * Dump your satellite TV and get Freeview. Yes it doesn't get you the comedy channel but there are plenty of free-streaming things online these days:
    - BBC iplayer
    - 4OD

There's also a plethora of programs which will let you watch just about any satellite tv program (including your comedy channel) for a one-off fee. Just google around for reviews of online tv players.

As previously posted: am locked into contracts for phones for the next six months and it will be expensive to get out, going down as of next month, and no I dont pay anything on top.
Dump satelitte tv.....Given that the channels I watch are not bbc or C4 the iplayer thing is a bit os a waste of time & the one off fee thing sounds great but will it let me watch every night?
I'm sorry if I sound stubborn about this but it would be great if we could still have some kind of life while trying to get through this (see post about entertainment)
