I guess it depends hun,
I bought 2 second hand BIG cars (8 seaters) for when I was a childminder for under £1000. We bought them off eBay and both were excellent.
You need to have someone you trust who is good with mechanics really but I would look into it-no harm looking is there?
We've also bought quite a few cars from the local car auctions and again, have been extremely lucky that way-my current car (had it 1.5 years now) is a 206, X Reg, DH got it for £1000 and it was worth over double that when he got it-hardly had any issues with it and it's a great little car.Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
I get presents and any extras from grocery budget, another reason it's so high.
As I previously posted: am investigating the orange thing, but the contract may be an issue, have tried to apply for DLA, no go. Not allowed IS. Car insurance won't go any lower, tried.
Entertainment consists of weekend papers & comedy & documentary channels, neither of which is available on freeview.

Hi Rudgymum, re your income, I know that if you were on IS or JSA, you are allowed to keep the 1st £20 of earnings, I know that might not be much help sorry!.
Re Water meter, I dont know whether its the same across all water boards, but with Severn Trent, there is an exclusion that you can apply for,, there are different reasons, eg adults + children, medical conditions, etc, it may be worth looking into that. Apologies if its all vague.
Re the car, as its on finance you may end up loseing too much if you part-ex or sold on.
Good luck with the spending diary xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Thank you so much. I just checked the Anglian Water website, downloaded the form, filled it in and am writing a letter of complaint. Then I will send DSno2 to post box.LBM:FEB 2008

I've been reading through this thread in the hope that I can find some nuggets to help with my situation. If this would be better posted elsewhere please say (I'm a newbie). If helpful repliers need questions answered please ask - I'm not shy!
I am the husband who left and am trying to find ways of helping my ex stay in the mortgaged house while still allowing me to get another mortgage.
Earlier in the thread there were discussions about what could be done if the two parties were talking. As I am the party that would be the obstructive one if I were that way inclined I feel that as I am not then there are things I can do to make this situation easier. I am interested to know what could be done about avoiding getting the CSA involved (amongst other things) and in getting the house into my ex-wife's name while she is not working. It is not avoiding paying that I am interested in, merely in getting my name off the debt (and to be fair, off the investment - she'd get the best part of the house and contents).
What advice would people give an 'ex-' couple who could agree to work together to solve some financial issues?0 -
Hi. Need Help. I think you would defnitely be better off starting your own thread for this one - go to the dfw board and go to thread tools - or something like that and start a new thread. Maybe title it Helping ex with mortgage or something like that so people know what it's about. You could also try the mortgage board or similar as they might know more.
I'm afraid that I have no experience of this so can't help you. Sorry
Best of Luck
