Does anyone know if you get a cheque book with this account? I know a lot of people don't use chqs anymore, but for the odd time you might need one.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

Yes I got one, don't remember if I specifically requested it, or whether it came automatically, but occasionally it's useful to have one.0

The 'welcome' email had an attachment - of a chequebook request form. So it looks like Abbey won't send you one unless you ask for it......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0

If you open account in branch the advisor should ask you, in fact during the discussion before the account is opened the advisor should have captured such info on the MIFYM form.0

All offers are subject to £1000 being paid in from a non-Abbey account per month, .
Abbey Branch ( Manager included) informed me today that the 1000.00 can be transferred from a Abbey Account as in their words all is required is 1000.00 monthly credit, info on webpage doesnt mention anything about the 1000.00 being paid in from a "non Abbey account"

All staff were given hand outs as to the workings of the £100 offer. Main proviso being for new customers, any existing bank account holders were exempt. It was only for switchers and that means salary/benefits and any direct debits/standing orders.
Normal switchers must have at least £1000 per month credited this can be wages, benefits, cash or cheques. Not 100% if it includes transfers from say savings accounts. Would need to check that one tomorrow.
I can see that come June there will be customers asking 'where's my £100' as i can bet there will be !!!! ups and misunderstanding by staff and customers.0 -
Same here. Got a letter (which had my name wrong on it) saying Abbey's contacted my bank but they're not playing ball, so I have to get the list of DDs and SOs. I didn't react as Christmas got in the way.
Got another letter the other day saying "we wrote to you last week... get this list to us within seven days or we'll place your case on file". I was going to ring my bank tomorrow to get it sorted, but when I logged into my old bank account I saw that the bogus SO had paid out. When I got home I found my Abbey Internet banking details waiting on the mat for me, so I logged into my account and saw that the SO had been transferred and actioned.
No idea what the originator number is either, but I'm not going to do anything else now my one and only SO has been transferred... In my experience (including this one) Abbey are highly incompetent and talk cr*p at the best of times, so I'm not confident that I'm going to get the £100, but we'll see!!!
SuzeI have the same situation. First of all Abbey take an eternity to do anything. However my transfer was coming from First Direct and same thing, they asked me to get in touch with First Direct to supply the list of DD and SOs. I've now had a second such request, obviously my reply crossed with theirs, however, the stupid thing about it is that they must have transferred the SOs anyway as I had set up two bogus SOs for £10 each, so Abbey would have something to transfer and they are now listed on my Abbey account anyway. So they must have done it. I didn't, unless it was the man in the moon.
Also they requested that I sent them the Originator number, but as I set up these SOs myself with First Direct, there is no originator number to my knowledge anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. Got my third letter from them today. Rang the switching team. The letters will stop when you ring them and explain that actually you don't have any Direct Debits to transfer. The originator number refers only to Direct Debits. I didn't have any but they think you do unless you tell them otherwise. So the girl was going to notify the Team that there is nothing else to transfer. £100 will be credited within 60 days after you have made 3 months payments in.0

abbey is part of such a big bank I dont think they can be too fussy where the money comes from.
They've taken over two building societies in the last 6 months alone, they probably got customer accounts all over the place which are basically now just relabelled santander operations
This, hsbc and the new lloyds will be the behemoth banks. RBS I expect to be scaled down and sold off quite dramatically as soon as possible
The 3 month of payments can be made any time right, theres no rush I hope. Im still waiting for proper operating details to arrive though I set it up start of December0
